Debate/Comment: "When a worker does not wear PPE or does not wear it correctly, who is responsible - employer or employee?" Answer:Personal protective equipment is commonly referred to as PPE, which is equipment used to minimize the hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. Which may be result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards.

Workers sometimes refuse to wear PPE in workplace mostly due to lack of supervision, uncomfortable to wear, poor awareness, heaviness, communication and training. Not wearing PPE can result in several injury or death. It is the responsibility of the employer to know that employees are wearing PPE or not. Employer are responsible for providing instruction on why PPE is needed, maintenance and cleaning of the equipment, and educating and training workers on proper use of PPE. Employers should design a PPE program to identify the crucial elements of PPE program by applying the selection of appropriate PPE, management support, fitting, hazard identification and risk assessment and by publicized beneficial effects of the PPE. By doing these things employers can train the employees to use and care the PPE and can provide the importance of PPE to workers during working in risky jobs. Secondly, workers are also responsible when they refuse to wear PPE.According to The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, these are the responsibilities of workers, to wear PPE correctly to protect their body, hands, eyes, lungs, and face from dangers. Workers must be worn and used the PPE instructions which are provided to them by employers. They should examine the PPE before using it, if there is any defect must be immediately reported to their employer. In my viewpoint, both employers and workers are responsible "When a worker does not wear PPE or does not wear it correctly” because it is the duty of employers to examine the protection of company employees while doing risky jobs which require use of PPE, but workers should also have to wear the PPE for their protection and also to ensure that the provided PPE is properly used.
