Title: Why should I recycle? Author: Jen Green and Mike Gordon Illustrator/s: Mike Gordon Summary: Mr. Jones, a school teacher sets a good example, by teaching his students about recycling. He serves as a positive role model by separating his trash for recycling. Together both teacher and students discuss possible ideas on how they can make the world cleaner and safer for them in the future. After a trip to a recycling plant, the students not only learn the value of recycling, but they also make conscious to why it is important to protect our environment. This book not only helps children think of the importance of protecting our planet Earth, but it also helps children think and answer questions on how to protect nature through colorful illustrations as examples. Age/Why it is age appropriate: This book is appropriate for children ages 4 to 7. It is around this age range that adults should transmit the importance of nature awareness to children. The words are easy to comprehend, providing children the opportunity to expand their vocabulary by learning new words from the text. Words such as recycle, protect, and nature. The print is big, and the illustrations provide children to have a visual understanding of the concept of recycling. Style/Sound: This story is very instructive and helpful for children to learn how to recycle. It also facilitates children to learn new vocabulary in a fun and hands-on style. Global Awareness: This book is related to the topic of global warming. It creates a global awareness by introducing the concept of recycling. Teaching students how this can be accomplished, and why is it important to protect our planet Earth. It is important to present this topic at a young age, to create a sense of helping planet Earth. Giving children the responsibility as members of our society and part of planet Earth. Global Engagement: After reading this story children will become aware and excited about how to protect nature and planet Earth. Children will elaborate a plan on things that can be recycled while at school. Together the class will create a recycle corner where they recycle materials that they can use for future projects. Children will also be motivated to start practicing recycling habits at home. Children will also learn that Earth Day is celebrated every year on April, 22.

Global Perspective: This story shows the perspective of Global Warming and how everyone around the world should work together to protect planet Earth by recycling and reusing materials. Children are able to practice recycling at both home and school getting involved in protecting nature and our planet. Theme: The theme of this book is Global Warming, recycling, and nature awareness. Language: This story helps children with language development by teaching them new vocabulary and how to express how they feel when they are protecting planet Earth. Children are learning that recycling is not only the garbage that is a product of waste after cooking. Students will be able to connect the vocabulary to their everyday experiences. Cognitive: This story allows the educator to use higher order thinking as a method of engaging children to understand the concept of recycling. This will help students develop cognitive skills by allowing them thinking critically asking how and why questions to better understand how to recycle. Personality: This story helps children with personality development by creating new habits that they can carry on for their future. In fact, students can also teach others by providing a vivid positive example with these new habits. Helping children to be responsible for thinking of ways that the habit of recycling brings. Providing positive changes to protect planet Earth and create an impact in their community, by living in a clean environment. Social/Moral: This story helps children grow in their social development because they are able to transmit the message of protecting planet Earth to others. They also create self-conscious for their decisions as well as owning their actions. Students learn that is important to protect nature and their planet which is a social and moral responsibility as occupants of planet Earth. Aesthetic/Creative: This story helps children grow in their aesthetic/creative development by introducing them to Global Issues such as how to protect their environment by recycling every day. Students can help their community by starting their recycling habits within their school. Students can accomplish this by picking up trash around the school and then recycling it according to the 3'r which are Reuse, reduce, recycle....
