Description

Welcome to BSB126 Marketing Semester 1, 2021 To help your semester run smoothly we thought we would provide some information before classes commence.

Blackboard Please make sure you familiarize yourself with the BSB126 Blackboard site this semester. You will find everything you need to successfully complete this unit. The Learning Content page is particularly important. Here you will find links to the information that is being covered each week in your classes. There are also links to the lecture slides, recordings, online quizzes, and assessment. All the important announcements and reminders are made on Blackboard. These are sometimes also issued as emails to your QUT student email account. Please make sure that you have set up your QUT student email account and check it regularly. If you have any trouble with Blackboard, please contact IT Helpdesk - https://www.ithelpdesk.qut.edu.au/

Contacting Us All communications regarding your studies need to come from your QUT student email account. This is for your own privacy and security. The Unit Coordinator, your tutor and administrative staff will not be able to reply to your emails if they come from non-QUT student email accounts. Please identify yourself clearly when contacting us by providing:   

Full name (as you are enrolled), Student number and Unit code (BSB126).

***You may wish to consider setting up an email signature on your student email account to assist with clear communications. Who do I contact?  

Your tutor – for all tutorial/content/assessment related issues. Details provided in your first tutorial. HiQ – [email protected] are responsible for assisting students with general enquiries e.g. How do I enrol? How do I complete a class registration form? How do I change tutorials? Class Registrations It is important you are registered into your tutorials for this unit and that you attend the tutorial you registered for. If you require a class registration change, please note that this is a central process and you will need to submit your request online via HiQ – [email protected]. This form opens 2 weeks prior to the start of the semester and will close at the end of Week 2.

BSB126 Class Schedule Information

BSB126 Marketing has a combination of lectures and tutorials to cover the content for the semester. Lecture – Monday 9am to 11am Z 411 The lecture will run each week during the semester. These are 2 hours in duration.

Recording of lecture content All lectures are recorded and live streamed for BSB126 Marketing. They are available to students on Blackboard via a link from the side menu “Lecture Recordings”. Recordings are usually available after the class has run on campus but can sometimes take a few hours/overnight to update on Blackboard. Tutorials You only have six (6) tutorials for this unit. Each tutorial is 90 minutes duration. Depending on which class you have registered into this semester you will come during the odd weeks OR the even weeks for tutorials. To check which week your class runs you can look at your Virtual timetable. You will be able to see the dates which the classes commence.  

EVEN week tutorials – will commence in Week 2 and continue weeks 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12. ODD week tutorials – will commence in Week 3 and continue weeks 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13.

Attendance at tutorials In your tutorials, you will undertake specific activities relating to your assignment (40%) and Exam (40%). Textbook The prescribed textbook for BSB126 is: Grewal, Levy, Mathews, Harrigan, Bucica and Kopanidis (2017) Marketing, 2e. McGraw Hill. ISBN 9781743766699

It is available as an e-book as well: https://www.mheducation.com.au/9781760421816-aus-ebook-for-marketing-2e Please note: This year we have started using the second edition. If you have a second-hand copy of the first edition, you should be aware that there have been some updates – i.e. new case studies. The content flow remains mostly unchanged. The mid-semester and exam questions will be set from the Second Edition text. Either version will be fine to use.

Assessments

Assessment 1 – Mid-semester exam (20%) A 40 question, multiple choice online exam covering content from Week 1 to Week 6 will be opened on Friday (Week 7). The link to the exam can be found under the ‘Assessment’ heading. 

  

The mid-semester exam will available between 12:01am Friday 23rd April and will close on 11:59pm Friday 23rd April. You can log in to Blackboard at any time during this window and take the exam.
