Task 2 ...

Description

A. Summarize the real-world business situation identified in task 1 Kindred Hospital is a long-term acute hospital (LTAC), patients that are admitted to this facility are usually very ill. The average stay for these patients is about twenty-five to thirty days. Due to the severity of the patients the nursing staff is key to the success of the company and the recovery of the patients. They are interested in which clinical positions have more junk hours/incremental overtime hours. Nursing staff work twelve hours shifts and roughly three shifts per week. Junk hours are any amount of productive time over a 12-hour shift, but do not always lead to overtime hours. They are currently focusing on three clinical positions: House Supervisor, Floor nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. Kindred is wanting to know if there is a significant difference in the average amount of hours for the specific nursing positions. B. Report the data you collected, relevant t the business situation, by doing the following: 1. Describe the relevant data you collected I have collected the hours of 30 different shifts over a month, for the three clinical positions. The data was extracted from Kronos our time keeping program and exported into excel. A formula was used to indicate the shifts that had minutes over the12 hour shift. The data was then organized in the spreadsheet into three columns with the junk hours listed under the proper position. The following table is the data collected for this analysis.

2. Create an appropriate graphical display of the data you collected:

C. Report how you analyzed the data using an analysis technique from the given list by doing the following: 1. Describe an appropriate analysis technique that you used to analyze the data The analysis technique that I used is ANOVA/ Megastat. It can compare the average of three or more groups. This study is concerned with the average of three groups. The results will show trends and relationships between the House Supervisor, Floor Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistant positions and the junk/incremental overtime hours. 2. Include the output and any calculations of the analysis you preformed

3. Justify why you chose this analysis technique The reason for the analysis is to determine if there is a significant difference in the junk hours/incremental overtime hours between the three clinical positions. They need to know which positions have the largest average of hours, so that they can then can they dive in to see what could be causing such a significance. The ANOVA can compare the average of three groups. The results will show rather there is a significant difference between the average of the three groups. D. Summarize the implications of your data analysis by doing the following: 1. Discuss the results of your data analysis We can reject the null hypothesis that the average junk/incremental overtime hours are the same based on the results from the analysis the F-value obtained of 5.10 is greater than the F-critical value of 3.10 and the p value of 0.008014 being less than p 0.05. House supervisors have the highest average of (0.65 hours), Certified Nursing assistants with the lowest (0.366667) and in between the two Floor Nurses with (0.45) hours. 2. Discuss the limitation(s) of your data analysis There are multiple factors that could influence the results of this analysis, staffing and censes being two of those limitations. We don’t know weather or not they were accurately staffed. If they were understaffed with a high censes, it could cause staff to miss their meal break or even stay later. We also don’t know if the staff coming in to relieve those positions on either shift were running late or not, which could also impact the junk/ incremental overtime hours. 3. Recommend a course of action based on your results Based on the analysis we have determined that all three positions have junk hours/incremental overtime. As it appears, the House supervisors have more junk hours than the other two clinical positions, but they all have junk hours. This study does not take censes and staffing into consideration, but it does consider the tasks based on the job descriptions for the positions. Kindred could do a deep dive into the job descriptions and their daily tasks and determine if the tasks need to be rerouted to another position in the hospital or if more staff is needed....
