Britta Allen Task 1 C572 Classroom Management, Engagement, and Motivation March 5, 2021

A. In Scenario 1 there seems to be many behaviors present in the classroom that could affect the learning environment. George gets angry sometimes and will throw things and strike at others. This will affect other students in the classroom every time it happens. The teacher will be pulled away from her instruction time to address George and try to redirect his focus back to the lesson. Every time she stops to try and redirect George the other students are distracted by his outburst. This not only interrupts the learning of others but also George. When George is acting out, he is no longer focused on the lesson either, or possibly may not be ablet to regain personal control for the remainder of the day.

B. One possible trigger that comes to mind with George is maybe there is difficulty transitioning from one task to another causing an upset or outburst. It is possible that George has difficulty processing in a timely manner what is expected of him, and the steps needed to transition with his classmates. The behavior could be caused by having to end something that he enjoys doing his current activity and he does not want to switch to the next activity.

C. I would modify my instruction to help George avoid striking out and throwing things by having him close to where the instruction is being given (i.e. in the front row or by my desk) and also give him shorter tasks to complete versus multiple steps. I would break it down for him in smaller chunks to see if that helps with the behaviors, perhaps George is feeling overwhelmed with instruction.

D. One example of use of technology would be to incorporate a digital timer. In scenario 1 Sarah struggles to stay in her seat and likes to wander the classroom. By using a digital timer for her we could set a for a certain number of minutes and after the time goes off, she would be allowed to move around to satisfy the need to get out of her seat while still maintain the situation. This

could also be used for her when the timer goes off it is time to return to her seat. This also sets the tone that there is given permission for a special circumstance. A digital timer is small and easy to take with her from task to task allowing for consistency through out her day. This allows for better instruction without many interruptions from getting out of her seat.

E. One technology program is called Kahoots. This would be an excellent resource for Bridgette who needs continuous confirmation that she is doing work correctly. This is a fun innovative way to give her the reassurance she is seeking. Kahoots is an interactive program that you scan a QR code with from everyone in the class and their answers reflect on their screen and on the board. This allows for almost instant feedback and continuous confirmation that she is doing the work correctly. This would allow for the teacher to see where is missing and address it with her.

F. One resource that I would introduce, and use would be Flocabulary. This is a fun interactive music-based strategy to use when teaching almost all subjects in class. This might work wonders for Joey. Flocabulary creates catchy songs to help retain the information being taught and would allow him to sing along and be on the louder side. Flocabulary has lessons for all grade levels and very catchy tunes that repeat several times for repetition.

G. One resource used to engage students who bore easily is called Boomcards. This is an interactive online computer-based program that can tailored for each student. Some lessons even come with printable worksheets that could be used for homework classwork for quick recall of information. This would be good for Nancy to help used lessons that could keep her interested in instruction and tailored to the learning style that fits her.

H. All programs mentioned are programs that I use daily and prior working experience....
