Jackson1 Xavia Jackson Pamela Zanzucchi ACC-260 May 1, 2021 Career Preparation 2 I decided to participate in the Excel tutorial online career activity through the corporate finance institute. In the Excel tutorial it went over the basics skills of what is required when becoming an analyst and working with excel spreadsheets. Analyst require “these categories include skills, knowledge, and abilities” according to the Journal of Information Systems Education (Tianxi Dong, & Triche, J. 2020). The Excel tutorial helped me understand those analyst categories through the multiple resources that were provided. I decided to participate in this course because I felt it would help me tremendously in my current career field and future career. Excel is a skill that is always constantly advancing and it is import to stay on top of. I decided to choose the excel career development activity because I wanted to learn more about excel, and it can influence my current/future career goals. The course was broken down into seven sections that have individual courses in between. Each section consisted of five to twelve three to five minute videos that walked me through how to properly operate an excel spreadsheet as an analyst. At the end of each section there was a quiz to help me check my understanding of what I was learning about excel. If I need to go back and check my understanding I was given the opportunity to do so. This course is free and not only for analyst. This course can be for anyone looking to enhance their excel skills. The whole course took me about an hour and fifteen minutes complete. The courses ended with a final exam

Jackson2 of fifth teen questions that I had to score at least eighty percent on. I completed the course I received a certificate. After received my certificate, I was surprised to see the corporate finance institute of a plethora of analyst courses. Unfortunately those courses are free but are affordable and can contribute to me career development. I really did enjoy the course and I learned a lot about excel. I was able define financial analyst tools, review the basics of Excel, and being introduce to other advance functions in excel program. Being an analyst is not my first choice as a career opportunity. However, it is one the requirement for the job that I want to be at in the future. As I was looking at my organization chart located in my department many people have experience being an analyst for at least three to five years in their work history. I have had taken other courses in the pass through my job that has helped me grasp a better understand of Excel. However, this course, walked me through how to operate Excel as an analyst. Therefore, I was introduced many keyboard shortcuts. For example ctrl+spacebar group sections (CFI Education Inc. 2021). Another one is ctrl+R is fill right (CFI Education Inc. 2021). I love all the keyboard shortcuts and I will be sure to use them in the future. I can definitely use in my current work. The course even broken down how to properly color code numbers pertaining to if they have a formula or not. I defiantly will be reference this course and looking to review it multiple times. There was a lot of information that was introduced to me. I took lot of notes, but sometimes I need to go back and review the videos in the sections. As I mentioned in my first career paper I do want to be in a position of management or administration long term. However, I feel it important to identify short-term obtainable goals. As mention in Greco, L. M., & Kraimer, M. L. 2020), “Shortterm goals, sometimes referred to as subgoals, allow individuals to reframe complex long-term goals into smaller, more attainable

Jackson3 steps that increase the chance for feedback and strategy adjust mention pursuit of long-term goals (Journal of Applied Psychology 2020). I find short term goals to ease the pressure of the long term goal I am trying to get. Being an analyst is something I seen my self being next year when I graduate. I currently work for the state of California in HR. The next obtainable goal would be a promotional analyst. Taking the Excel tutorial online career activity through the corporate finance institute, is helping me set myself up for success. I hope to continue to use the multiple resources that are on the corporate finance institute to expand my knowledge. In conclusion, I found that participated in the Excel tutorial was both enlightening and information. I enjoyed learning something new that would help pursue my career goals. The course was simple and easy to negative. I recommend more people try the corporate finance institute excel course for their selves.
