An excellent and satisfying career path in animal welfare and care is entering into the field of research institutions and laboratories. For example, a specific job position is working for Trouw Nutrition Canada inc. as a poultry modeling nutrition research scientist in Guelph, Ontario. Trouw Nutrition is the global leader in innovative feed specialties, premixes and nutritional services for the animal nutrition industry. Trouw Nutrition provides species-specific nutritional solutions consisting of feed concepts, products and nutritional know-how. To obtain this position you must have a PhD in poultry science, animal nutrition or a related field. It is required to have 3 years of appropriate work experience including experience with; providing technical support to poultry customers, preparing feed formulations, and development of models and data inputs to improve model reliability (data sets contain information and models based on observed input and output data help abstract and gain new information and understanding). It is also an asset to have experience in quantitative nutrition modeling, preferably with some industry experience and in developing and applying poultry simulation models. This job also requires you to be a self-motivated with good organization/planning skills, ability to build, motivate and participate effectively in research teams, a strong interpersonal, negotiation, and time management skills, a proven track record of excellent oral and technical writing skills in English and strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Some duties of this job include developing and supporting internal mechanistic models which improve the nutrition and productivity of poultry species, integrate new modelling approaches into existing internal mechanistic models, participate in modelling efforts to improve mechanistic model accuracy and applicability, conduct experiments on animal growth, heredity and breeding through the collection of data, and maintaining existing nutritional database/calibrations. You will also work as a team and work alongside coworkers quite often, this includes engaging with the data science team to develop hybrid mechanistic/machinelearning models, maintain equations in the modelling environment interacting with a programming team, present results at internal scientific meetings and participate in Trouw Nutrition North America Technical Team which support national technical transfer and marketing goals. The salary for this job is $80,000 - $90,000 yearly, which you can be eligible for bonuses and salary increases.
