Description

Case Study 6 1. A successful ethics audit consists of complete documented measurements of compliance with policies and procedures, and should be done regularly. In this case, the ethics audit that Doug wants to Charles to execute is missing the complete part. Doug just wants Charles to get the audit over with, and not necessarily do a good job or follow through with what the actual purpose of the audit. Charles is mainly concerned about money and keeping the business going, not ethics. He doesn’t even want to do the audit, so it’s not going to be a complete, quality audit. 2. Corporate culture refers to the beliefs of top managers and executives about how the business and employees should be managed. At Butterfly, profits and surviving financially are the top priority right now. Because the company is struggling, their main concern is making money and not having to shut down the business. Ethics is not a top priority right now, or at least for Doug. Because of this, I would say their corporate culture is rigid, stressful, and all about meeting certain quotas. They are desperately trying to save this company, so there is no messing around at Butterfly. This describes a very strict corporate culture where work is always being done as opposed to a relaxed corporate culture where more things more fun and loose. 3. I would recommend Charles do as quality of a job as he can without upsetting Doug or the upper level management. He could try not to pull people out of their jobs or take up too much of their time by completing it as quick as possible, but trying to do a quality job at the same time. He should probably take Doug’s recommendation about doing an employee survey just to make him happy. Also, not hiring the third party company would save a huge amount of money. I think Charles should continue researching ethics audit

options and seeing what these third party companies do, and attempt to replicate it. If he could find more quick, cheap options that would complete a quality ethics audit they could present to the board, that would be ideal for both Charles and Doug....
