Case Study of Challenges of Online Travel Agents...

Description

Case Study: Challenges of Online Travel Agents According to the case study I read, one of the the critical features of being an online travel agent is by giving varied discounts. Due to the fact that there are a lot of competitors in the online market, many travel agents aim to lower their prices in order to attract more customers. Furthermore, the impact of the Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Consumer (B2C) model has significantly reduced the cost, resulting in lower airline tickets, hotel rooms.

To compete in its traditional markets, the local travel industry has been forced to adopt new global business standards resulting in an increase in the market share of online travel agents. The internet makes travel agents become aware and prepared to deal with the growing rise of the online market. They invest on social media sites such as twitter and facebook because they know the fact that they can build a network of potential customers.

Online travel agents are bleeding with losses as the global market share grows. As a result, some travel agents, particularly the traditional travel agents, are unable to keep up with their other competitors because some of them are more advanced when it comes to e-commerce. With the huge number of competitors, online travel agents face losses due to the rapidly rising cost and difficulties in selecting how to distribute products through multiple online and offline sales channels and the pressure to up-sell and proper management of the seats.

Before the rise of online travel agents, travel agents faced numerous challenges. To begin with are the inconvenient booking procedures wherein they use telephone calls for booking flights, hotels and other facilities. Then there’s also data duplication because they use multiple and different sources to collect datas on their bookings, customer profiles, payment requests and other business information. Lastly, they also deal with the unforeseen weather conditions, miscommunication and changing trends.

Nonetheless, I do believe that these challenges can still be overcome. In terms of the booking process, to have a more convenient way of booking I suggest that they must have an application or a website where their customers can see their complete booking process. In terms of Data Duplication, I recommend that they must invest in installing advanced systems that will help them detect if there is any duplication. Lastly, they have to keep up with changing trends which is the most significant aspect in boosting your company’s growth....
