Larreal 1 Mauro Larreal Rockford, Jonathan ARH2050 November 3, 2020 Chaitya Hall: Symbol of Balance Chaitya halls constitute the nature of its religious intenders, the structures are perfectly carved into the medium of the rock. This foreshadows the intent of the Buddhist idea of “balance” in all things. The structure balances its high roof rounded profiles, elongated and freestanding halls with the distinct separation of the sacred stupa contrasted with the monk quarters; therefore, allowing us a clear representation of how the religion achieves higher balance while utilizing the nature around us without deforming it. The Islamic Kaaba is the most important architectural piece in both the entire region and for its religious followers. The Kaaba; although different from its Buddhist counterpart the stupa, share various key factors when taken point of their cultural significance. The Kaaba and the stupa representations hold glory to the “prophet” or “guide” of their respective ideals, also both contain either sacred artifacts or remains of their former “teacher”. A major difference worth noticing is how well maintained both are even due to the fact the Chaitya halls have been longed abandoned, this operates in the advanced concept of art, architecture, solid foundation, and relief the Buddhist followers had even in eras with significant lack in technology. The Chaitya halls contrast very stigmatically against its architectural Asian brothers, unlike many building compared to be shrines of most holy, the halls represent one of the closest concepts men have ever had to a “higher meaning” by combining holiness, nature, balance, and sanctum for its followers in one big union of architectural concepts....
