Chapter 1-3 of Great Gatsby

Nick’s father tells him to not criticize anyone since they might not have the same benefits that he had, causing him to become a person who is understanding and does not judge anyone. After coming back from the intense war environment, Gatsby wanted to move to a place where there was the same type of excitement. His restlessness contributed to his migration to a different place. Gatsby represents everything that Nick hated but it was the characteristics of Gatsby that makes him worthy of Nick’s compliments. Nick also says that Gatsby was a person who “turned out all right” (meaning that even though he had so many flaws that led to his downfall, he still managed to pull through somehow) but due to his immoral ways of gaining wealth for a dream or a goal that he was never able to reach, that is what led to his downfall. It also changed Nick’s perspective on achieving the American dream, which is the main reason he came to New York after the war. Describes his family and how they became rich even during WW1. Moved to New York after the war to become a bond salesman. Bought a small sized house for himself to live in beside Gatsby’s house.
