Description

Chapter 6 In early 1938, Albert de Morcerf, son of Mercedes, and his friend Franz d'Epinay went to Italy to spend the carnival in Rome. Before that, Franz travelled to Livorno because he wanted to visit an island in order to hunt wild goats. Once in the island, he met Sinbad the sailor, an elegant man, in a secret cave, which looked like a castle. There, Franz spent some time and then learnt that Sinbad helped some bandits. Totally surprised, Franz had no longer interested in shooting wild goats and decided to return to Rome. Once in Rome, he and Albert rented a carriage and went to see the Coliseum. While they were resting on the shadow of a wall, Franz could hear a conversation. It was a conversation of 2 men, one of them was Sinbad. The other man was asking him to help his friend Peppino, who was going to be executed the following day. Sinbad accepted and then they left. The next day, Franz and Albert were invited by the Count of Montecristo to spend the day with him. Franz quickly discovered that the Count was actually Sinbad in a disguise, but he did nothing about it. Franz was now interested in this mysterious man. He also noticed that Sinbad looked Albert in a suspicious way. During the afternoon, the 3 of them went to see the Executions, 2 men were going to be executed when suddenly a soldier arrived with a note and Peppino was saved from the guillotine. The next day, Albert and Franz went for a ride again in their carriage, both were interested in meeting women, and Albert was seduced by a beautiful woman who arranged a date with him the following day. So, the following day, Albert met that woman and they left. Hours passed and Albert didn't return. Franz started feeling worried about his friend. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, it was a man, Peppino, he was carrying a letter. Albert had been kidnapped by Luigi Vampa who demanded 20000 FRANCS to let Albert go. Franz immediately went to ask for help from the Count, who accepted to help him. So, they went to see Luigi Vampa. Once there, Luigi Vampa was surprised to see the Count, and he got angry when he discovered that Albert was actually the Count's friend. Luigi let Albert go. Totally thankful, Albert invited the Count to visit his family and meet his parents. The Count accepted and arranged a visit in 3 months, on May, 21st....
