CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people ASSESSMENT TASK 2 CASE STUDY 1: MARTA

1. How can the worker tell from the bruising pattern how the injury is likely to have occurred? How would this be different from bruising that occurred due to falling out of bed? The worker can tell the likelihood of occurrence of the accidental or abusive injury from the bruising pattern because accidental bruising often appears over bony prominences such as knees, elbows, shins, forehead, etc while intentional injury usually leads to bruising on the softer regions of thighs, abdomen, buttocks, cheeks, necks and anogenital regions. In this case, the grab marks on Marta’s hands are suspectable and these bruises do not occur by falling out from the bed. If Marta had fallen out of the bed, the bruising would be more likely to be on only one side of body. 2. What actions must the worker take to report the suspected abuse? The worker should carefully document the details such as the bruising pattern, its appearance and location in writing and have them photographed for evidence. He should notify it to the supervisor. He should also ensure that his actions are respectful of Marta’s rights and wishes. 3. What professional support service could Marta be referred for assistance? Marta can be referred to support service such as Seniors Rights Victoria for assistance. It provides assistance to elder people who are threatened or abused and safeguard the rights, dignity and independence of older people. 4. The worker no longer feels safe going to Marta’s house. This is very stressful for her as she does not want to admit that she feels unsafe and insecure. She is so worried about it that she can’t sleep at night. What could she do?  Talk to the supervisor  Undertake debriefing and counselling

Yes, the Catholic clients are being discriminated against. They have the full right to attend the church as well as enjoy going out for coffee or shopping. It is the responsibility of the facility to find another priest who is able to attend the church on Tuesdays. But, instead of making provision for the residents, the staff member acted disrespectfully and disvalued their belief towards God. 2. What would be a better way of dealing with the concerns of the Catholic clients?  Discuss about the concerns of Catholic clients with priest what works better for everyone  Organise another time to go to town for coffee or shopping. 3. What action would you take if someone in the client group wanted to put in a formal complaint?  Refer to the supervisor  Give the client a copy of the client compliant guidelines and explain the compliant procedure  Listen to their concerns and identify possible solutions ASSESSMENT TASK 3: ROLE PLAY-MEET WITH BRENDA Care worker: Hi, Brenda.
