After reading David Buckingham’s piece, Childhood in the Age of Global Media, I found that there was more evidence to support the opinions found in Kid Kustomers. However, I was surprised by the way that David Buckingham’s opinion varies from that of Eric Schlosser’s. While Buckingham would probably agree with Schlosser on many issues I found it very interesting that he does not view children simply as the victims of media. He views the children as a combination of both “free agents” and “passive victims.” Buckingham believes that media often provides a strong and enjoyable culture that appeals to children all around the world. Furthermore, he believes that the media helps to influence their identities. I felt like this was a very bold point that actually gives media more of a positive connotation compared to the mostly negative connotation we’ve read about thus far....
