Christian Dior Christian Dior was a French fashion designer born on January 21, 1905 and died on October 23, 1957. One of his most notable accomplishments is inventing the “New Look” silhouette. It mainly consists of A-line skirts and curve-hugging bodices which flattered women’s figures and thus became popular in the 1950s. The charming, elegant garments he remembered his mother wearing to the Deauville Races in the 1900s served as Dior's influence. Thus, “New Look” became a postwar cultural icon for "youth, hope, and the future," as he put it. With the widespread of his designs, I was surprised to know that Pierre Cardin and Yves St-Laurent both worked as assistants to Christian Dior. With his efforts in women’s couture and evening wear, Dior now holds the name of one of the most influential fashion houses in the last century.
