Description

The Common Heritage of Humankind 1. Pardo’s concept of the “common heritage” of humankind consists of the deep seabed and ocean floor. He believed it was beyond the limits of national jurisdiction and not an appropriate subject. He felt that the deep seabed and ocean floor should be reserved exclusively for peaceful purposes. Instead of having it under national jurisdiction, it should be free and usable to all. The resources of the seabed and ocean floor (minerals) should be exploited primarily in the interest of humankind with particular attention to the needs of poor countries. He shared a moral, environment-friendly concept to this topic. 2. I agree with the principle of common heritage and feel that it is achievable. It only makes sense that localities should belong to humanity rather than a specific country. I believe that their resources should be available to all and benefit those in need. The earth is not determined by anyone, and there is no right to decide this year’s after the creations were made (seas, bodys of water). 3. I believe that the equitable sharing of the benefits derivable from the

exploration of deep-seabed resources could

become an international reality. Mining the deep ocean for minerals can be shared amongst others by new agreements.

Though with the conflicting development and increased interest, complications may arise....
