Coffee vs Tea

Coffee or tea? Anyone would have personally experience this situation. Coffee and tea are two of the most common and famous consumed beverage in the world. There is no specific timing to enjoy both drinks, in the morning, the afternoon, and even at night, they are still enjoyable. Avid fan of coffee and tea would agree to say that both of the drinks are different from each other. But if you take a closer look at both of the drinks, you will see that both of them actually have quite a lot of similarities between them.

Both of the drinks contains caffeine. Caffeine block adenosine – a neurotransmitter that triggers relaxation, thus keeps us to stay focused and alerted. Coffee and tea have different amount of caffeine. A cup of freshly brewed coffee has approximately 125-185 milligram of caffeine. Coffee is typically brewed at higher temperature, allowing more caffeine molecule released into the cup. At the other hand, tea contains only half the amount of caffeine in coffee. Black tea has approximately 55 milligram of caffeine per cup. Various tea has different caffeine content, oolong tea has only two thirds of the amount and green tea is the least, with only one third of caffeine compared to black tea. Tea, which brewed at lower temperature does not cause all the caffeine being extracted from the leaves. Moreover, the leaves that are discarded also carried a significant portion of the caffeine.

Next is both of them provide energy boost to the body due to the presence of caffeine, but it affects the body differently. The caffeine absorbed from coffee is much quicker, resulting to a jolt of energy. It often described as a lift and a letdown, showing the instantaneous energy lift. However, tea, on the other side contain amino acid called L-theanine. This amino acid presence slow down the absorption caffeine by the body. This result to a steady flow of energy and also at a longer period of time.

Another similarity of coffee and tea is both have them have health benefits. By drinking coffee, disease such as diabetes type 2 can be prevented. Researchers believe the coffee caffeine content helps to inhibit insulin resistance. Aside that, coffee raise epinephrine (or adrenaline) level in your blood. This will lead to higher energy level and quicker response time, causing the physical performance to increase by 12% on average. This is particularly

useful for endurance exercise as higher adrenaline level helps to push through long sustained activity.

On the flip side, the tea also contained health benefits such as it protects the brain function. The presence of antioxidants in tea lower the neurological disease risk, such as Alzheimer and Parkinson. Regular consumption of green tea also boosts the cognition ability such as memory recalling. Tea also helps to lower LDL cholesterol that can cause serious cardiovascular disease. High blood pressure can be lowered by consuming some type of tea, so do to improve blood circulation, which will lower the chance of a heart problem such as heart attack.

There is always a discussion on which is better, coffee or tea? Both of them has benefits to human health. To perceive which drinks is more beneficial depends on the individual itself. Your health problems and also how you personally react to the different caffeine levels contained in both drink will help you to decide, which drink is best for you personally. Either tea or coffee, both were delicious beverages that can be enjoyed in many ways possible and regular partake of it will be beneficial for health, as long as it is in moderation.
