1. Impact of R: V1 = 25 V2 = 2.5 V1/V2 = 25/2.5= 10 Which action do we choose: Action 1 Bigger rewards from action 1 makes the value more valuable. Since comparing 100 rewards and 10 rewards it is obvious that 100 rewards are higher in value. Therefore, we will choose action that has a higher rewards. 2. Impact of Ps: V1 = 3 V2 = 1 V1/V2 = 3 Which action do we choose: Action 1 V1 is bigger than V2 because the probability of success is bigger than V2. With higher probability of success, it makes the reward higher. As we can see when the value of success in V2 equation get smaller, the reward become smaller. Therefore, we will choose action that has a higher reward. 5. Modelling a choice:
Socializing with friends’ positive value: R = 100 since we found socializing with friends are really fun pS = 1 because we will definitely happy when we hang out with our friends. D = 3 (3 Days) v1 = 100 * 1 / 3 + 1 = 25
Socialiazing with friends’ negative value: R= -10 sometimes we just want to be alone and have a me time, therefore hanging out with a friends has a negative rewards. pS = 1 because we definitely will not enjoy hanging out. D = 14 ( 2 weeks) v2 = -10 *1 / 14 + 1 = -0.7 Total Value = v1 + v1 = 24.3
Writing final paper positive value R = 100 This paper matters because it will determine either you will pass your grade or no. pS = 1 D = 7 (7 days) v1 = 100 * 1 / 7 + 1 = 12.5 Writing final paper negative value R = - 100 because you found writing and strenuous and unpleasant. Ps = 1 D = 2 (2 days) v2 = -100 * 1 / 2 + 1 = - 33.3 Total value = v1 + v2 = 12.5 – 33.3 = - 20.83 Therefore we will chose action 1 which is socializing with friends since it has a higher value than writing final paper....
