Some include country music, Western swing, and Tejano music. Tejano music is a popular music style which combines “Mexican, European and U.S. influences”. The name of this style of music comes from the name given to Mexican Texans who were living in Texas from before the Texan Revolution. Como la Flor is a song released by Selena Quintanilla in 1992. It is known as her signature song and peaked at number six on Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks and at number nine on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Tracks in 1992. Como la Flor was one in a long line of Selena’s music that popularized Tejano music among the Latino and Hispanic community, as well as introducing it to the non-Latino communities. The lyrics of Como la Flor compare a lost love to that of a withered flower. It deals with love, loss and being left behind. In this song Selena sings about how her lover has left her and she may never love again, for she gave all her love to her lover. Como la Flor is relevant to Texas as it deals with some of the most common themes in Texan music – love and heartache. However, it is most relevant due to who made the song what it was. Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a Latino legend, regarded as “the queen of Tejano” and seen as a role model for many people. Even after her passing in 1995, she still brings Latinos on both sides of the border together through her music. Como la Flor is only one

Bhattacharya 2 example of her most famous and iconic songs. She popularized Tejano music across the globe and showed that she could be true to her Latino and Tejano roots, while still being a model American woman. Thus, Como la Flor is one of the most relevant songs Texas due to its history.
