Description

Fall Concert Short Response Review I went to the Fall Concert that took place in the Koko Theater at All Saints University. The concert consisted of performances by the Wind Ensemble, the Elder Choir, and the Orchestra. We were all directed to a seat and we waited for Mr. Opie to start. He began with a brief introduction to the piece and then had the Saxophone Ensemble line up in front of the stage with their stands. They counted off by one person nodding his head and they all took a breath at the same time to begin the piece. They played the Muppet Show Theme which was a nostalgic song for the young and old in the audience. The super big saxophones seemed to be playing the melody while the rest of the saxophones played in harmony. They played short, staccato notes and all of them ended at the same time except for one person who ended the entire song with a very low note. The saxophone ensemble took a bow while the audience clapped and cheered. They took their places onstage while Mr. Opie gave another brief introduction before starting the piece. The lights dimmed and the lights focused up on the stage. Mr. Epée silently counted off and the Wind Ensemble began to play. Not all the musicians played loudly. Some only played at certain times while some played throughout the entire piece. You could hear the loud and thundering beat of the drums while you could also hear the soft notes of the clarinets and the flutes. You could notice that they played at the right tempo; no one was ahead or was behind. When they were finished playing, they kept a serious, solemn look on their face and bowed while the audience again clapped and cheered. After the Wind Ensemble, the Flute Ensemble went in front of the stage and kept and good, straight posture as they looked toward the audience. One musician counted off by whispering and they all began at the same time. Just like the Saxophone Ensemble, not everyone was playing the same notes. They played at different measures in the song, they played softer and louder in certain measures, and they all ended at the same time.

They took a bow and then headed to the back of the stage as the percussionists came up front to set up. Just like everyone else in the performance, they kept a good straight posture. Instead of counting off, they started with one person beating their drum sticks together to count off one measure to start the piece. They percussionist made sure that everyone playing was loud and playing quickly. Their piece was very fast paced. After that, they picked their chairs, stands, and instruments and headed back as the orchestra began to come on the stage. The orchestra began playing their pieces with Mrs. Teenier counting off silently. To the left on the stage, there seemed to be two or three obvious soloists that really stood out from the rest of the orchestra. Their notes were different and they played louder than everyone else. Their performance consisted of long, measures that slurred on while some were short and fast as the furiously moved the bow across the strings. Just like the rest of the performers, they focused on their music and kept a solemn appearance. When they were done performing, they all stood up and bowed. They left the stage in single-file lines as the intermission came to start. After the intermission, the clarinet performers filled the front of the stage and set up their music stands. They started off by whispering to count off one measure. They played as loudly and softly as they could in certain measures. Some played really low notes while some played high notes throughout the entire song. You could see that they kept with the right beat and tempo and only played slowly when they needed to. When they were finished, they smiled and bowed and left. The Elder Choir was next as they rolled in a platform for everyone to stand on. Mrs. Grimaldi began by introducing herself and then began conducting all the performers. They had soloists who stood out on the front of the stage and sang as loud as they could to make sure they really stand out from the rest of the choir. The rest of the group sometimes echoed what the soloists sang or they hummed. Some soloists made themselves really stick out by giving a dramatic

performance while they sang. They audience cheered loudly for them as they left the stage ending the concert. This was a well-prepared for concert that I would recommend anyone to attend. Even though only a few parents and students attended, it was worthy of a bigger crowd. The Elder Choir lived up to my expectations as they gave a great and memorable performance. The Orchestra was admirable and worthy of great praise as they must have worked hard to be able to keep up with the pieces they were playing. The Wind Ensemble gave great performance as it was one that would be looked up to by everyone in the Junior Band....
