Some questions for the chapters...
The Catcher in the Rye Chapters 21-22 3/3/21 What do you think the cliff represents to Holden in his fantasy of keeping kids from falling off of it when they play in this imaginary rye field? I think that the cliff represents all the blunders that the children make. Holden says he will just catch all their mistakes and save them.
Now that we know about the James Castle incident, what else about Holden’s character makes more sense? (Hint: think back to a borrowed jacket, fantasizing about jumping out a window, or protecting people) When Holden mentions the cliff, it seems like it is related to this incident. Holden seems like he could have done something to stop it. He feels bad what people have done even though it wasn't their fault. He wants to save them like the cliff scenario....
