This is not for college students mainly freshmen in Hight, to be honest, I uploaded it because I didn't want to pay for premiums. Sorry if you thought this could help. But if it does I'm glad....
Creating a Thesis Poetry Argument Common Task Prompt: Write an explanation of how an author develops a particular argument within a fictional text, followed by a response to that argument. What is a thesis statement? ● A thesis statement is a one sentence statement that expresses the position of your paper. ● More than that, it also narrows the topic of your argument, establishes a direction your writing will follow, and takes a solid position. ● The thesis statement is composed of two parts: the claim (poet’s argument) and the “how” (elements that reveal the argument). ● Your thesis will always be stated at the end of your first paragraph (the introduction). What are some elements that can reveal the poet’s argument in a poem? Tone
Mood
Imagery
Literary Devices (simile, metaphors, etc.)
Rhyme, Rhythm, Meter
Poem Structure (line breaks, etc.)
Thesis Statement Formula “Poem title” + poet’s name + poem’s argument + elements that reveal the argument Example: “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou argues that true beauty lies within a woman through the narrator’s confident tone and use of metaphors.
