MAGAZINE REVIEW & FEATURE MAGAZINE REVIEW Cosmopolitan is the number one young women’s title in the UK and reaches one in four millennials. It’s the “biggest and most iconic young women’s media brand” (Hearst UK) and it’s aimed at 18-30 year old women who want to “impress in all areas of [their] life” and are trying to build a career, whilst wanting to keep up with the latest trends. The magazine includes health and fitness tips, relationship stories and advice, beauty trends and the latest fashion rundowns. The monthly B2C issue is published by Hearst UK, who also publish Elle, Harper’s Bazzaar, Digital Spy, Men’s Health, Women’s Health and Red, among others. In the first half of 2018, Cosmopolitan sold about 302,500 copies of each monthly issue, which was interestingly 25% less than the year before. However it still placed 4th for the circulation of UK women’s lifestyle and fashion magazines, below John Lewis Edition, Good Housekeeping and Stylist. A year subscription currently costs £9.99 per six months, otherwise copies are currently sold in Sainsbury’s for £2.00 and in Tesco for £3.00. Cosmopolitan’s writing style is mostly persuasive when describing new beauty products and fashion, as the writers are clearly recommending it. The print also contains a lot of narrative where stories about relationships, etc. are relayed and an expository style is also present when discussing other matters. The women’s magazine employs an entertaining tone of voice in order to obtain young adults’ attention, as well as having an understanding tone to be able to relate to the audience and empathise with what they’re going through. Cosmopolitan magazine which was first issued in 1965, has a UK online site with 8 million global users per month. The online version of the magazine has a lot more content in the subject area of celebrity news and gossip, as well as lots of how-to type articles, than in its print copies. As the power of the internet is only growing and social platforms like Snapchat and Instagram are bigger than ever, Cosmopolitan is very active on social media. The magazine has accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and Snapchat, acquiring 4.8 million followers across the five platforms. It has its own place on the Snapchat discover page along with MTV and The Sun, containing lots of celebrity gossip and fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips, presented in a really fun and interactive way that is also very snappy because Snapchat users tend to want things quickly. Cosmopolitan is not just a physical and online magazine. The company organises events such as fashion catwalks, career master classes and parties. There is also a home-wear range designed by Cosmopolitan called Cosmo Living that can be viewed and purchased via Wayfair online. Products include furniture, bedding and other home décor. I would say this home-wear range is targeted at young women who don’t want to spend a lot of money on decorating a first apartment, but still want to have a proud home with elegant décor. Prices are very fair, with an armchair selling for $180 and an upholstered bed selling for $400. MAGAZINE REVIEW & FEATURE MAGAZINE FEATURE 7 Halloween costume ideas for the lazy thinkers! We know you’re dreading coming up with this year’s costume… so we’ve done it for you.

Halloween is such an exciting time for everyone – for kids, it’s the dressing up and trick or treating, but for the older ones, it’s the dressing up and going out! Here are seven Halloween costume ideas to prevent you from stressing out over deciding on what to go as to this year’s Halloween party. Or for those who just want Halloween inspo, you’re welcome. Missguided, Pretty Little Thing and Smiffys tend to crop up a lot in this listicle because they all have lots of seasonal clothes this Halloween. Surprisingly, Asda has been fantastic for Halloween this year too. Even with their ghost shaped crumpets and toffee and candy apples, (SO irrelevant but SO relevant!!!) they have also brought out an adults Halloween costume range this year in which you can find good costumes for very fair prices. Whether it’s a big London club you’re going to this year or just a friend’s gathering, you’ll be sure to find something for yourself here… Dead / devil ballerina Match any colour tutu with a white, red or pink bodysuit and either some devil horns to transform into a devil ballerina or some fake blood to turn into a dead one. This look means you can still look pretty and girly but still be on the scary side. Adult Halloween devil tutu fancy dress costume - £8.00 – Asda Basic white jersey plunge neck thong bodysuit - £8.00 – Pretty Little Thing Fake blood spray - £1.50 - Asda

MAGAZINE REVIEW & FEATURE Failed plastic surgery victim Use a marker pen to draw arrows and dotted lines on your face and chest to make it look like incision lines for plastic surgery. With this look, you can pretty much wear what you like as the proper costume comes from drawing on your skin. However a white bandage dress or white bandeau is a good idea as it can look like bandages. It also wouldn’t hurt to use a little fake blood. Presli white bandage frill hem bodycon dress - £35.00 – Pretty Little Thing Fake blood spray - £1.50 - Asda

Chuckles the clown Female clown costumes can be naughty and sexy or they can be down right silly. Whatever style you want to go for, there are so many clown costumes. Use a pink lipstick or lipliner to draw big diamonds around your eyes and draw your mouth on really big. Similarly, if you like the circus theme, a sexier costume could be one of a ringmaster. Fever patchwork clown costume - £26.99 – Smiffys Clown lady costume - £24.99 – Smiffys Fever boutique ringmaster costume - £22.99 - Smiffys

MAGAZINE REVIEW & FEATURE Trendy witch If you’re not too interested in dressing up, just wear a Halloween slogan top or dress and still look gorgeous. Resting witch face black t shirt dress - £7.49 – In The Style Pointed toe over the knee boots - £30.00 - Boohoo

The classic cat Dressing up like a cat for Halloween will always be a classic, but there’s always a way to jazz it up a bit. Try a cute cat eye mask to make a change from cat ears and wear a cat suit to give off proper kitty vibes. This is a really easy costume if you’ve accidentally left it ‘til the last minute. Like you do every year. Whoops. Black velvet cat suit - £19.99 – New Look Adult cat glitter eye mask - £4.00 – Pretty Little Thing Halloween red sequin eye mark - £2.00 – Missguided Brown cat ears with bell collar - £3.00 - Missguided

MAGAZINE REVIEW & FEATURE Runaway bride For this one, find any white long dress that somewhat resembles a wedding dress and preferably find one that you don’t mind cutting up a bit as it helps with the distraught look of a dead runaway bride. You’ll obviously need fake blood to add to this look and also, try dabbing and rubbing under your eyes with a mascara wand to make it look like you’ve been crying so much that your mascara has run. Bridal white lace mesh embroided frill maxi dress - £24.00 – Missguided Fake blood spray - £1.50 – Asda Halloween white fancy dress veil - £7.00 – Missy Empire

Ghost buster This is a really easy costume for Halloween because all you need is the actual costume itself – you don’t need to precisely paint some special makeup on or wear anything silly on your head (unless you want to wear a cap). You might want to make sure however, that your costume comes with the proton pack prop because without it, others may struggle to work out what you’ve come as. Adult Ghostbusters Halloween costume - £22.00 - Asda Sexy secret wishes Ghostbuster costume - £40.99 – Halloween Costumes
