Synopsis of Course Contents
This course introduces the students to the history, origins, and development of equity to give them an appreciation of the nature of equity and its function. Equity’s role is illustrated through the maxims and doctrines of equity. The course deals with the way equity protects both legal and equitable rights as well as management of property, particularly trusts. It examines the remedies available at equity, which common law is not able to grant or adequately address. The course will then deal with rules of inheritance and the administration of estates of a deceased person, applying statutory laws with incorporation of rules of equity.
