Description

FOA - name, number, address, time of arrival, name of victim, victims statement/what happened, who reported, suspects, witnesses, who has entered scene, first aid, risk assessment?, point of entry/exit. PRELIM WALKTHROUGH/RISK ASSESSMENT - (slips, trips, sharps), how to mitigate risk, write down PPE worn. INITIAL SCENE OBSERVATION - condition of scene (lights on? Door open? Furniture disturbed?) CAP - use and note down. INITIAL PHOTOS - 4 corner with landmark, front + back of room, floor + ceiling, point of entry/exit. HYPOTHESIS - any areas of interest? PRIORITISE EVIDENCE - give reason (review throughout). Fibres – Lochard. But prioritise evidence if it will be damaged by room conditions. EVIDENCE - number (MAS/1), pic from 2 fixed points, close up, close up w. scale + number, measure from 2 fixed points. Description of evidence/where it was found, how it has been packed. Test if its blood. PACKAGE - on sheet. SIGN + DATE ALL OVER TAPE - 2nd level packaging (tamper evident bags) (add biohazard tape if necessary) SKETCH - note evidence locations. Write evidence number and draw measurement lines from 2 fixed points. Include legend for location of evidence and furniture from 2 perpendicular points. Give furnishings a letter for legend and number evidence per prioritisation. Measurements in legend. Label with case details (case no., address, offence, victim, date + time, CSI number). Date + sign. Include North and ‘not to scale’. SIGN, DATE + NUMBER ALL PAGES Initial and date any mistakes Cross through blank spaces - sign + date FINAL HYPOTHESIS

BIO SWAPS BLOOD Presumptive test + document it If dry blood, dampen swab with STERILE water. Rub stain, back in tube - “wet swap of blood stain”. Dry swab, swab now wet area of blood - label ‘dry swab of blood stain’. Dampen swab, wipe around ‘background control’ Dampen swab, back in tube, ‘negative control’ Sealed around top with tape, biohazard sticker, sign + date, 3010/01a, 3010/02b, etc. KNIVES - fill in Keepsafe bag label. Sellotape weapons tube, hazard sticker, put in bag. sellotape, date + sign. Crime ref, exhibit no, date, time, location, CSI on tube. GARMENTS - brown bag, fold twice + seal. Yellow label. FINGERMARKS = ALUMINUM POWDER Preloaded Zephyr brush - dust it lightly in circular motion - check with torch. Use Eezi-Tab to lift mark and onto Cobex (Acetate sheet). Use scalpel to create small cuts around edge of Eezi tab. Sign + date all over edges. Gravity mark to show which way facing before lifted. Add exhibit no, case no, crime ref no, date + time, location + CSI. Package in evidence bag.

THINGS TO REMEMBER - Ensure info of sketch is in legend (measurements etc) - Produce seperate photographic log - Double glove

FOOTWEAR - stick paper to box, seal, date, sign everything + yellow label. GLASS/HAIR + FIBRES Beechams powder fold. Tape up all edges, sign + date over each tape. Put sticker on. Crime ref, exhibit no, date, Time, location, description, CSI. Biohazard sicker if glass, Sticker if glass, hair or blood. VOLATILES - Nylon bag, twist top, fold over, seal w cable tie (swan neck). Label crime ref no + exhibit no. 2nd nylon bag, tissue at bottom, swan neck + cable tie. Attach completed evidence label w cable tie + BEFORE LIFTING FINGERMARK, ENSURE IT HAS BEEN PHOTOGRAPHED AND DOCUMENTED PROPERLY!! FINGERMARKS - MAGENTA FLAKE Dip magnetic wand into magenta flake, tap off excess. Circular motion, rub flake over area. When developed, BVDA gel lift (black), peel backing, lay the gel lift black side down onto mark. Rub the back, peel then stick to a Cobex sheet black side down. Tape around outside of gel lift - black side would be stuck to codex sheet and tape should be on white side of gel lift. Sign + date over tape. Gravity arrow on Cobex to indicate which way the fingermark was facing before lifted. Add exhibit no, case no + crime ref...
