Description

MAGELLAN VOYAGE by ANTONIO PIGAFETTA 1.In our research, Antonio Pigafetta was born sometime in the closing year of the 15th century. His parents are Giovanni Pigafetta and Angela Zoga. He is the eldest child among his siblings of two. He was a native of Vicenza, a town about a hundred kilometers west of Venice, Italy. Antonio Pigafetta studied astronomy, geography, and cartography and he was a scholar. He served on board the ships of the knights of Rhodes at the beginning of the 16th century. He accompanied Monsignor Chiericati to Spain in 1519. He also accompanied Magellan, together with Juan Sebastian Elcano in the famous exposition to Mollucas which began in August 1519 and ended in September 1522. He was known Chronicling Magellan's circumnavigation. Pigafetta was one of the 18 men who returned to Spain in 1522, under the command of Juan Sebastián Elcano, out of the approximately 240 who set out three years earlier. These men completed the first circumnavigation of the world. Pigafetta's surviving journal is the source for much of what is known about Magellan and Elcano's voyage. At least one warship of the Italian Navy, a destroyer of the Navigatori class, was named after him in 1931. 2.It is about Journeys, Adventure, Love, Courage, Hope, Teamwork, Oceanic Navigation and Exploratory Trip. It is a narrative story that simply tells us what happened in the past. Also, the theme of this document is about linking to other country, influencing other countries, exchanging products and ideas, learning and discovering new culture, products and civilization such as the first mass, changing the religion of the natives, documentation about Philippines and the war of Magellan and Lapu-Lapu. It also tells that the Philippines have established system and civilization even though not that complex or detailed, at least the natives are evolving not physically but socially. 3.This first voyage around the world played a big role in making the world understandable on what it is today. It is the first circumnavigation around the world that has geographically and symbolically linked different cultures and has been part of the development of several civilizations. The global expansion of scientific and technological knowledge also took place. This exploration proved that the Earth is round. The discovery of the Strait of Magellan where Atlantic and Pacific Oceans were navigated awakened humanity on the world's richness. It established commercial contacts between East and West that remained for centuries and promoted the exchange of multiple sorts of experiences. There are also monumental remains and stories that are part of the rich historical and heritage memory preserved in the different territorial places that are part of the route. 4.This voyage helps people to overcome their lack of knowledge about oceans and other continents. On how the world was connected or how big it was. It established immensely profitable trade routes thus helping their economy too. It is the first global route providing all sorts of exchanges and this process can be repeated even in the future. It promotes universal values and allows people to explore another culture and open their horizons to new opportunities and new ways of thinking. Trading goods and ideas can be helpful for the both cultures to grow and expand. Also, there are different religions so much better if a person will not try to spread it to the natives if they don't believe in the same religion because it might bring turmoil. 5. When I read the first voyage, I was marveled because knowing that it is when exchanging and achievements in commerce took place and that they proved that the Earth is round is really amazing. Also, the fact that it is the first voyage around the world makes a lot of discoveries we

need to be thankful for. It is when they said that the globalization in our world started. It provides us scientific knowledge and cultural, artistic and religious practices. It played a role on how we got our culture, lifestyle and language. It has been a part of the past that we should never forget because it makes us understand the present....
