Critical Analysis In a country that is full of magnificent artworks and genius artists, choosing an artwork is never the easiest thing. Appreciating it can sometimes be a piece of cake but choosing among them is completely a different and complicated story. That’s because there are lots of them, and for me choosing only one among them took a lot of time because in choosing it involves many factors. In choosing an artwork to critique, I didn’t just choose a piece that is pleasant to look at. I didn’t just choose the one with the most attractive colors or unique patterns, but I chose the art that away my heart the first time I laid my eyes on it. And I found this piece among the works of a Filipino artist from Bantayan.

Edgar “Gary” Carabio is a self-taught pastel and watercolor Realist Painter who turned a lot of heads from U.S. He was born in Bantayan, an extremely beautiful island along the northernmost part of Cebu, in Philippines. He came from a family of skilled craftsmen and artists, probably why he’s so skilled himself. He was a young man, an 11 years old in 1978 when he won first prize in a live competition in Suwu City and from then on people recognized his talent. He took up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines and won multiple times at the annual Jose Joya Awards....
