Task 2...

Description

D081: Task 2 A. One potential risk that can destroy the company would be the employees themselves due to the decentralized structure. Since this company relies massively on the participation of the employees, this can present scenarios where they can engage in unprofessional/illegal behavior. This can seriously damage the company’s reputation. Another potential risk would be the union with other companies in India. Although this company has good intentions, others might not and view this as an opportunity to cheat them out purely for financial gain. Employees may not have the correct knowledge in vetting new companies as the founders due to the decentralized structure. However, this can be easily managed by careful vetting. B1. One internal strength that this company has is the pledge to innovation and customer service by employee-driven collaboration via incentives. This company empowers employees to reach out to different industries, companies and individuals to design products that will meet the needs of the fishermen in India. The other strength is the company’s commitment to sustainability. They are striven to make their foldable boat an ecofriendly one so they can get an endorsement from NFDB. This will put the company on top of its industry and help tackle India’s problem with landfill waste through recycling. B2. One potential internal weakness would be the structure of the company. Due to decentralization, this can promote an environment of laziness. This can lead to disorganization and delay in the project in meeting milestones. Another potential weakness would be the two indigenous cultures: American and Indian. Although the company has fostered a culture of togetherness via incentives, there is bound to be some clash as America and India are two totally different countries with different values and tastes. If these clashes get out of hand, it can lead to lawsuits which can financially ruin the company. B3. One external opportunity presented to the company is the already established fishing industry in India. Economic zones have been established to support over 14 million people who are part of the fishing industry. This company will make soaring profits due to India’s industry specifically looking for an ecofriendly boat design which aligns with their product. Another external opportunity would be the endorsement from NFDB. If the company is able to meet their requirements and obtain their approval, they will have successfully become the most sustainable company in the fishing industry which aligns with their vision statement. B4. One potential threat that this company faces is the increasing competition in India’s emerging market. Once others hear of what they are trying to create, they will form partnerships to beat us to the game. To successfully come out first and on top, the decentralized structure must have clear guidelines on executing partnerships and agreements in a timely fashion. Another potential external threat would be India’s political environment. Although they are rapidly moving towards a market economy, this can present instability and violence that the company cannot stop. This can lead to financial ruin for the company and bodily harm to the employees. C. Based on the SWOT analysis, one strategic recommendation for the company is to adopt the integrated strategy. The company will need to foster healthy relationships with the local

plastic suppliers in order to take advantage of the best prices. Although India has a very large market for the company, they must also keep in mind it is also a developing country. They must strive to make the boat as low as possible in order to capture this large market. Another recommendation for the company is to obtain the seal of approval from the NFDB. Once the company is able to make a successful prototype and obtain the seal, they will have captured the Indian market. They should also immediately file a patent. Not only are they the most sustainable company in the industry, but they would also be the only company that makes affordable recycled, foldable boats that are transportable. C1. The justification of the integrated strategy is because it is aligned with the company’s vision statement of being the most sustainable company in the industry. By assisting India in reducing the landfill and preserving the ecosystem of the ocean, they will have obtained a very high CSR. This could lead to further awards from nonprofit organizations which will boost the reputation even further which can lead to more sales....
