Task 2...

Description

A. Personal Values One of my top core values would be honesty. I believe honesty is one of those values that will define someone. Honesty is more than just being honest with another person. It is being honest with yourself. You do not have to show honesty with words as actions can have just as big of an impact. Another of my top core values are accountability. Accountability is being able to own up to your actions. Without accountability, there is no standard to hold yourself too. I believe respect is another core value that everyone should aspire to show. When you have respect for someone it shows them you even though you may not agree with their opinions you are willing to listen to what they have to say. Respect is not only for other people. You need to have respect for yourself. The last core value I believe that people should show is generosity. Generosity is one of those things that can change the way another person feels just by a simple act or a few words. Showing generosity shows people that you care about them regardless of beliefs, views, religion, or race.

B. Compare Values I believe my core values of honesty, accountability, respect, and generosity will directly align with Alliah’s values and social responsibility. In their ethics statement, Alliah mentions that any “employees, supplies, contractors, and other entities engaed in business with Alliah will do the right thing for stakeholders.” By “doing the right thing for stakeholders,” that will take honesty. Honesty is doing what is right even if there is no benefit for yourself. Alliah mentions in their corporate social responsibility statement that they are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the business. This statement shows accountability. They are holding the company accountable for the environment and its well-being. You can see Alliah showing respect when they say they are open to all ideas as possible customer solutions. By being willing to listen to any idea that can

benefit the company, Alliah is showing the employees that they respect them and their ideas enough to possibly implement them into the company. The generosity aspect of my core values is one that cannot be directly seen in Alliahs’ company statements. Generosity is something that will be shown in how the managers treat the employees and in turn how the employees treat the customers.

C. EI/CI Evaluation C. Evaluate how EI and CI impacts interactions within the Alliah Company by doing the following: One-way Alliah’s leadership will improve their cultural intelligence by working with a more diverse group of stakeholders is by allowing a more diverse group of stakeholders, you are gaining different perspectives which will broader your own views. Also, this will allow for open lines of communication between different levels of employees and stakeholders. One potential challenge that may arise when working with Alliah’s diverse group of stakeholders is communication. With such a diverse group it is safe to assume that not everyone will communicate in the same manner. For instance, some cultures value personal contact while communicating while other cultures find it rude and offensive. This is because everyone thinks differently than one another. People leading the meetings will have to ensure that they are clear in the objectives and goals for the meetings. They will have to be careful not to communicate in a way that will offend someone. Communication can also be looked at how certain people perceive information. They will have to ensure that they find a medium that is comfortable for all the different stakeholders involved. One aspect of Hofstede’s six-dimensions of culture that can help you respectfully communicate with Alliah’s diverse work culture is collectivism-individualism. With a diverse work culture comes people from different backgrounds. People from certain backgrounds may come from a culture that is an individualism culture. This could mean that participating in group projects could be difficult

for them. Or certain cultures are a collectivism culture which means they consider the group welfare before their own. Understanding that this exists is the first key step to managing a diverse workplace. This will help you put people in positions where they feel the most comfortable and will therefore lead to a higher rate of productivity. Understanding the difference between individualism and collectivism can really make a difference in the workplace.
