When the word success comes to mind many instantly think of the societal model which includes measurable outcomes. These outcomes place emphasis on values such as: wealth, preferably in the form of a large bank account or stock portfolio; a prestigious career such as doctor, lawyer, accountant, financial advisor; fame; the perfect house; an expensive sport or luxury car; luxurious vacations; designer clothing; the perfect partner; a degree from a prominent school, etc. These riches are utilized to monitor success. One definition of success is “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose or a desired outcome”. Webster’s Dictionary defines success as: a degree or measure of succeeding; or favorable/desired outcomes, such as the attainment of wealth. Precise definitions of success also include “the act of getting or achieving wealth, respect or fame.” One definition which I find to be the most authentic is “the correct or desired result of an attempt.” In other words, the achievement of your planned goals. Although accurate, the above definitions of success are rather limiting, narrow and restricting. Success and the attainment of it is subjective, it is a personal preference of each individual. What one individual views as success another may feel indifference towards. Success is not definable by the accumulation of wealth and/or prosperity. Success and the true definition of it encompasses a multitude of dimensions. Meaningful measurements of success include emotional happiness, good health, creativity, living the life we want and deserve, meaningful relationships, enjoying your chosen profession, stability, contributing to society; working towards and achieving goals that are meaningful to you, these are well defined specific outcomes which can be utilized to measure success. The desire to experience and achieve success is within us all. What is the secret to accomplishing this? It is not complicated; however, success requires self -motivation, commitment, hard work, believing in yourself, determination, sacrifice, persistence, perseverance and a sense of humor. I view my personal success by maintaining personal values, continuing to strive for the goals I have set for myself, and the steadfast belief in the power of pure positivity....
