Description

Writer’s Inventory Q1. Writer’s Inventory What kinds of writing do you do on a regular basis? (For example, you may regularly write course papers, lab reports, correspondence, email, grant proposals, journal articles, fiction, poetry, etc.) Ans: On a regular basis I write, research papers, narrative stories, and emails. I have also tried writing advertisements and script for voiceovers during my Cambridge Advanced Subsidiary (AS level) English Language classes.

Q2. In your opinion, what is a good piece of writing? Why? What are the characteristics that make it “good writing?” Ans: In my view, a good piece of writing is when a writer can make readers visualize and understand a particular piece of writing clearly. Imagery, linguistic choices, and correct structure are also important as these can help the writers to convey their meaning and help writers build better on their piece of writing.

Q3. What is your favorite kind of writing? Why? Ans. I enjoy narrative writing because I have always liked storytelling especially by adding my experience and imagination which helps me to enhance my writing. I have also liked discursive pieces because that’s where one can show two sides of a coin and can show facts.

Q4. Describe yourself as a writer using five adjectives.

Ans: Realistic, eloquent, creative, exciting, and doubtful. Q5. What is your biggest challenge as a writer? What kinds of critiques have you received from teachers, colleagues, friends, and other readers? Ans: I always feel that I don’t use the right words or a good vocabulary to make my writing effective. Some of the critiques that I have received from my teachers 

I don’t focus on one thing, I sometimes move away from my main point

I need to edit my work

I leave some parts incomplete

Q6. What is your greatest strength as a writer? What do other people normally praise about your writing style? Ans: I think my forte is the way I convey a meaning using analogies. For e.g., my high school teacher once praised me for using a camera’s flash to describe a scene between a father and daughter when I wrote a story about a thunderstorm. “My father said don’t fear of that flash of light. Smile! God is taking a picture of you” Interesting aspect of this analogy is that I could write about this because my father said this to me when I was five. Q7. If you could change one thing about your writing or your writing process, what would it be? Ans: One thing I would like to modify about my writing is to use better vocabulary and literary devices. Q8. Have you changed as a writer over the last five years? If so, how? Why? Ans: Certainly, with my English teachers’ help I have evolved as a writer. This is because of the different books and poetries we analyzed during class. This improved

my understanding of different tones and literary devices used in writing which helped me to apply in my writing.

Q9. Describe yourself sitting down to write an important piece of writing. Where are you? What are you writing with? (A computer? Pen and paper?) Is there music or other distraction in the background? How do you feel? (Anxious? Excited? Relaxed? Nauseated?) What are you thinking about? (Your audience? Your ideas? Your grade?) Ans: For college assignments, I read on my laptop, highlight important parts, and then note down some points on a piece of paper depending on the assignment. I would then start writing it on Word and make changes wherever required. This is the difficult part as I’m usually told that my work is not edited properly. For the write up, I’m always nervous whether my idea or the meaning I’m trying to convey will be understood by the reader

Q10. What is you favorite genre to read? How often do you read? Name the last text you read for leisure. Ans: Personally, I don’t have a favorite genre, I like to read books or articles which I can connect with. Q11.Do you have trouble remembering what you read? Describe your reading process. Ans: Honestly, I struggle to recall specific details of what I read. I start by skimming to get the overall idea and then read the article in detail(scanning) at least twice.

Then, I highlight paragraphs or lines when I read for the second time. Developing a highlighting habit recently helped me to locate some specific points and remember the articles, stories, blogs more easily....
