Description

Once in Thailand Growing up, I've always wanted to try what I often see in telenovelas – riding the plane and going to other parts of the world. I've always looked forward to the feeling of going inside the enormous airport, seeing the smiles of those who are very eager to travel like me, and being so close to the white, fluffy clouds that I could almost touch it. The first time I traveled via plane, I went to Iloilo, the 'City of Love.' Since then, I've always wanted to travel more and experience what it felt like to see new horizons and see new faces. The next time I rode the plane, I was already bound outside the borders of the Philippines. This time, I was finally going to experience the culture of Thailand. We landed in Chiang Rai, a province in that country, and we were welcomed by the smiles of a group of Thai who danced gracefully along with their lively music. They were dressed in what looked like the clothing of the natives from the place. The colors used for the textile were black, red, and yellow, and the men wore something like what we usually call bahag. The girls, on the other hand, had patterns all over their clothes. To reach the city's core and finally get a good rest from the long flight, we had to ride a bus. Just like the buses here in the country, it was huge. However, the seats were arranged like how I often see it in K-dramas. There was an aisle that allowed other passengers to stand, and the driver accepts cards for payments. When we first got out of the airport's perimeter, it didn't sink in that I was in another country. It was pretty much like in the province where we usually visit during summer. There were wide, green rice fields, and there were a lot of trees. One thing that made me feel like I was in Thailand was the signages along the roads. It was written in characters that I couldn't read. When we had finally arrived at our hotel, I was mesmerized by the massive columns that served as the support of the entire establishment. There were crafts on the wall that looked like representations of their culture. A big, black grand piano was also placed at the hotel's right side once you enter the enormous glass doors. If you move a little further, you will see the hotel's dining area that was graced with the colors black, red, and gold. There was a buffet table at each side of the room, each from a different cuisine. They also served the famous milk tea from Thailand. For me, the most exciting part of the trip was when we visited Choui Fong Tea Plantation. It became the highlight of the journey because we were welcomed by the sweet, aromatic smell of the teas grown in the vast, green fields when we arrived there. To maximize the experience, we also visited their shop and even tried their foods. We decided to eat in the open area to enjoy the view. It has been a long time since I've smelled such fresh air. All I could see was the green field, and there was no hint of the city life. Reminiscing these memories only made me wish for all of these to end. Nevertheless, I would always hold these moments close to my heart....
