Description

Gender Inequality is a concerning predicament in our society that often goes unnoticed. It pertains to discriminatory treatment or view of people dependent on their gender. Moreover, it emerges from various perspectives with regards to social constructs on gender roles. Gender itself is the backbone as to why unceasing inequality exists.1 Its persistence is rooted starting from the olden times, and various attempts to gradually diminish it has also changed over time. Varying opinions and standpoint resulted in major commotion amongst the people within the society.

Over the course of time, global trends have significantly influenced gender issues thus it acts as a basis in finding key indicators regarding gender inequality in different aspects.2 This include inequality in the workplace, education, political matters and the like. In a look back decades ago, the first ones to fight for equal human rights were called feminists. 3 The endeavor they expressed brought upon multiple feminist waves in which they aimed to eradicate the unjust treatment towards different genders. Given the circumstances, women before were looked down and regarded as nothing but objects.

Women were denied to suffrage,

owning land and property, receiving education, equal wages, inherit estate and many more. Predominantly, men have superior privileges compared to women back then. These unfortunate happenings called for justification, thus the reason why social movements are given rise to.

The continuous fight for rights and equality paved the way for what society is right now. It could be said that feminists were in unison towards their goal in discerning gender issues. Additionally, it was made possible due to the development of theories of justice that is composed of various ideals and perspectives.

In comparison towards today’s 21st century, gender inequality

remains prevalent. Each person undoubtedly seeks equal status and basic rights. However, it is now clear that both male and female are mistreated and discriminated. It boils down to the fact that people amongst societies are the root cause of this turmoil. To sum, it is highly essential for governments and organizations to give emphasis in the eradication of gender inequality.
