Designing your life: chapter 1 activity...

Description

Week 1 Designing your Life 

Do you have any dysfunctional beliefs? What are they? How are they holding you back? o I think that I have one major dysfunction belief. I related to a lot of the issues they brought up in the intro and chapter 1 of Designing your Life. For instance, I do not have a strong passion in life that I want to turn into a career. Of course, I have passion for many things in life, but not anything that I could turn into a long-term and stable career. From the time we are young, we are told that we must have our career plans figured out by the time we graduate high school, so that we can pick a major for college and then start our careers upon graduation. The typical blueprint of life is as follows: college, career, marriage, and family. This majorly stresses me out because I don’t feel like I have my career plan figured out yet despite the fact that I’m about the graduate from college. This is holding me back because I feel a slight sense of hopelessness. I don’t want to work jobs I have no passion for the rest of my life. Instead of stressing so much about this, I need to reframe this stifling concept and instead embrace the idea that everyone’s life trajectory is different and that I don’t need to have a passion to find a career I love.

Life design assessment:

Where are you:

Health: o My health is currently excellent. I am 21 years old, so this is to be expected. I attend various specialists for checkups throughout the year to ensure my health is in great shape. In that respect, I think I take good care of my health because I am

proactive. On the other hand, I think I could eat a lot healthier and exercise more. I should start cooking more and packing food as opposed to buying so much premade food. I used to make homemade meals all the time in high school but have since stopped doing that as often as I used to due to being so busy. I shouldn’t use that excuse and go back to a healthier and more consistent lifestyle. I rate my health as “half full.” 

Work: o I work as a nanny. I enjoy it as a college job. By this I mean that I don’t want to work as a nanny for the rest of life. I fell into it and I am simply not qualified for much else in today’s job market without my college degree. I rate my work at “quarter full.”

Play: o I admit that I play a lot less these days. Before college and work, I used to play with my friends all the time. Not only did I hang out with my friends constantly, but I was involved in several fun clubs with my friends as well. Naturally, adult responsibilities have taken over. This is of course necessary in life, but I should make an attempt to add more play in my life. Currently, I love to hike, see films, and go out to restaurants with friends and family for play. I rate my play at “quarter full.”

Love: o I have lots of love in my life. I love my parents, my brother, my friends, and my dogs. I love to spend time with my friends and family. I love to spend time with the children I nanny. I love to enjoy the things I do when I play. I also love the

small things in life like drinking coffee in the morning while I watch the sunrise or how excited my dogs get when they hear the sound of their leashes. I rate my love at “three-fourths full.”...
