Putting all those pictures together they create a what we call multimedia. Before we proceed into our lesson, I have prepared a short clip which I believe will lead you to understand the importance of our topic today. (The students watch the video clip) D. Lesson Proper What is multimedia? Kindly read the definition of Multimedia? Multimedia means that computer information can be represented through audio, video, and animation in addition to traditional media. (Further explanation will be given by the practice teacher in the actual teaching)

Kindly read another definition of multimedia. The word multimedia comes from two Latin roots, multi and media. Multi means several or many and media means in the middle. This multimedia definition tells us that materials on the Internet or in your school and business presentations involve several forms of communication to connect, that is, to be in the middle of the sender and receiver. Also, multimedia can be recorded for played-back on computers, laptops, smartphones, and other electronic devices. Before we proceed on the different concepts related to Multimedia, first we have to talk about the different factual texts or types of texts. What are these factual texts? Factual texts inform the reader about a particular subject. They should give useful information and focus on facts. Example of Factual Texts: Kindly read the first example. Recount - journal, diary, newspaper article, historical recount, letter, log, timeline When we say recount, it is to retell a series of events. If you recount a story or event, you tell or describe it to people. Another example, kindly read the slide. Procedure - instruction, recipe, directions Means, to instruct someone on how to do something Another example of factual text, kindly read what is on the slide.

Explanation - scientific writing, spoken presentation

Meaning to explain how or why something occurs. So, for the last example of factual text? Description - observation, speech, analysis

Meaning to describe the characteristics or features of a thing or a phenomenon So, they were the four factual texts to be used in the different types of multimedia. Do you understand, class? Yes, Ma’am. Now, let’s proceed to the different types of multimedia. In the early days, in order to reach people, we used to use print media like letters, newspapers, magazines and books. But, when technology developed, we have now many ways to communicate and reach people, we now have televisions, cellphones, internet, social media and others. A multimedia system consists two or perhaps all of the following types of multimedia. We have here 5 Components of Multimedia Text Materials, Graphics or Photographs, Sound or Audio, Forms of Animation. Now for us to identify to what different types of multimedia being described and for us to know the uses of multimedia we are going to have this identification game. So let us have a fun and Learning. Okay, so what is being described? It Important components used in written explanation to deliver information in many multimedia applications. They are characters used to create words, sentences, and paragraphs. Example: Hypertext Text Materials Okay, so what is being described? Digital representations of non-text information such as a drawing, chart, or photograph. They give ideas in the images with the help of memory and one of the oldest

forms of media. Example: JPEG

How about on this one? Any spoken explanation that stimulates imagination and can be added and combined with all types of media. Example: MP4

Graphics/Photographs

Sound/Audio -

How about on this one? Clips or full videos that show information. They are a collection of moving pictures combined with audio files. Example: MP4, MOV, AVI files

Video Presentations

And, obviously the type of multimedia being described here is? Flipping through a series of still images. It is a series of graphics that create an illusion of motion to display pieces of information with moving or still images and easily transferable. Example: Graphic Image File (GIF) Forms of Animation Nice one, class! Now, let’s proceed to the advantages so as to disadvantages of using Multimedia. In using multimedia, there were things that really worked out and there are some also which it didn’t. What really are the advantages of the different multimedia resources? Advantages of Using Multimedia 1. User-friendly. It doesn’t take much energy out of the user in the sense that you can sit and watch the presentation, read the text, and hear the audio. 2. Multisensorial. It uses a lot of the user’s senses while making use of multimedia. For example, hearing, seeing and talking. 3. Integrated and Interactive. All the

different mediums are integrated through the digitization process. Interactivity is heightened by the possibility of easy feedback. 4. Flexible. Being digital, this media can easily be changed to fit different situations and audiences. 5. Used for a wide variety of audiences. It can be used by various audiences ranging (Students listen attentively) from one person to a whole group. Yes, Ma’am. Did you understand the different advantages of multimedia, class? On the other hand, we also have to take note these different disadvantages of Multimedia. Disadvantages of Using Multimedia 1. Information overload. Because it is so easy to use, it can contain too much information at once. 2. It takes time to compile. Even though it is flexible, it takes time to put the original draft together. 3. It can be expensive. Multimedia makes use of a wide range of resources, which can cost you a large amount of money. 4. Too much makes it impractical. Large files like video and audio need large storage. Adding too much can mean that you have to use a computer with huge storage capacity to store the files. Yes, Ma’am. Did you understand the discussion? Then we will apply what you have learned in the next activity. E.
