Alma 30-35: Prayer

The teaching in Alma 30-35 about prayer are very important messages to anyone who prays. The examples of the Zoramites prayer and Alma’s prayer in Alma 31, and the thing listed off in Alma 34: 17-27 are things that everyone ought to hear. They show that importance and the way a prayer should be. While reading Alma 31, I was trying to put myself into Almas shoes. I was thinking about how crazy it would be to see all of these people stand up at a synagogue one by one to recite the same, incorrect, prayer over and over again. It is interesting to compare the Zoramites prayer to Alma's prayer. While the Zoramites prayer was so cold and almost meaningless, Alma's prayer was heartfelt and full of personal meaning. Alma was able to speak from his heart and pray for the people around him. I also thought that it was really interesting that the Zoramites thought that they were the only ones that could be saved, and that there was going to be no Christ. Alma 34:17-27 is full of meaningful and important things to understand for when you pray. Amulek list off things such as having mercy, being humble, praying whenever and wherever. The most important message to me was how we should pray about what is important to us, even pray over our enemies and the devil.

I really loved reading these scriptures because, even though I already knew these things, they were able to help build up my testimony on the importance of prayer. I will also be able to share these scriptures with people around me when they have questions about prayer. It is also a good reminder that I can pray whenever and wherever I want, not just in the morning and at night....
