Description

Dirt: Dirt is made from stars. We are made of 5 basic elements Has all the kingdoms of life 4 ½ billion years ago the earth was consisted of molten rock, volcanos Rain formed ocean When humans took over the world billions of years ago If we don't take care of our soil the earth will be in danger Dirt contains microorganisms that work together or without each other In Bundelkhand, India the children play in the dirt A forest is created from the soil that came from the ice age that survived over time Fungi is created from Miselium creates dirt When it comes to a concrete jungle. They explained that nature They explained a story about “clyde's pick up: how a man fell from a cathedral while putting up concrete blocks up and fell more than 40 ft , while he was in the hospital he left his pick up truck under a maple tree, the motor not running. In the back of the truck open to nature. Fallen leaves and other stuff that fell into the truck created a garden from waste. Turning garbage into dirt is how we are sustainable We depend on dirt to purify and Water, (dinosaur pee) we celebrated dirt as who we are and where we came from There is an old story that explains how in the amazon jungle that one stay a stick rattle hit the earth and created us . the egyptians believe that the gods shaped clay into hmas and put them into paradise Christians, muslims god scooped up dirt and blew in the breath of life Hebrew believe that the name adam means dirt and clay and eve means life meaning that adam and eve gave us life. Soil is recognized as a source. Indians would give their animals plants they couldn't eat and would use there menuar as a source Plants get compounds from the air and energy from the sun to create sugars that go into fruits and vegetables Than when they farm the food they would allow the soil to get old and create a new life of itself overtime. We live in a garden of eve. All the fruits and veggies that come off of plants and tree provide for us because we provide nutrients and sources to the soil that. Gary Vaynerchuk,( wine library tv host ) explains how he would eat the dirt, the reason behind it is because he always feels a connections saying how the ground exposes the wine taste more than just the grape. Which having the best soil you have the best wine and grapes. In some parts of india they would use soil to create pots, bowls, etc. they would use soil for everything, they would use soil to plaster their floors, they enjoyed it like it was creating artwork.

It is a great building material, natural builders would Mud in the summer is cool not like plaster that is hot over the summer. David Orr explains that we are dirt. We couldn't be here if it wasnt for dirt. In chimayo new mexico there is a church that has what they call holy dirt, the dirt has healing powers that our connection to the earth is sacred. This dirt is so important to them that it truly is a blessing. A gentleman said , “you are dirt and to the dirt you will return” The demand for natural resources have changed when it comes to dirt all around the world we are destroying dirt to get other raw materials are more important. It crazy expensive. In california, it is considered all concrete. We put it all over dirt , with the climate change when it rains the water runs off and they would have to spend billions of dollars to bring water to california from other places. Without healthy dirt it is hard to survive In the midwest, was know of the breadbasket of the world. Using machinery to collect crops by the millions it was called monoculture, bringing record yields and profits, some people believe that they produce less. The farmers never realized they were killing the dirt destroying their root structures. Over the years wind would sweep out the top soils leaving them nothing. It is drying out the land Once a pest goes onto one type of plants the spread to others and that's why they spray chemicals that are killing plants and insects and they believe that one day it will harm us. Those nitrogen fertilizers that is left over goes into streams down the mississippi river and into oceans that suffer tons of marine life that only jellyfish could survive. The nitrogen also combines with oxygen that forms nitrous oxide that accelerates climate change. The entire brazilian rainforest was cut down to create more soil. To create farm lands and food. They destroy these forest not realizing they are destroying life. The would than put the forest on fire sending carbon dioxide and gases into the air, instead of letting them go into the soils. Farmer are pushed to buy more seeds and machinery that once was never an issue. In india over 200,000 farmers killed themselves, many drinking the pesticide poison.

Because of our activities we should be careful for our ecosystem. People who live in undegraded lands would have become very poor, they would live on that land and to go to cities to look for jobs, In haiti they would create cookie from dried yellow dirt , there is tons of food riots and deadly riots are happening because of the low amount of soil Floods, drought, and climate is all coming from the way that we are treating dirt. The story of the hummingbird is about a huge forest being consumed by fire. The animals left the forest and watched their land burn, what the humming bird did was collecting water from the river and pouring it on the fire and the animals were trying to understand how a hummingbird was never going to take out that fire and the humming bird told them he was doing the best he could. Many years ago native americans had an original relationship with the earth. When looking at soil pit. The thinner the soil the more important it is to have the roots, without the roots we wouldn't have food and sources. The below ground and above ground plants are both very important A couple from brooklyn moved to upstate new york to create a farm and does everything organically to do good for the soil. they supply to over 500 families on a daily basis. Communities have fresh produce in there areas that don't have much nature in a concrete area. They create parks and tree planting to have a positive impact on humans mental well being. A lady in the bronx created a green roof by rocks and soils that created life that cleans the air . the access water from the top of the house is drained into a barrel that disperses the water into all her plants and veggies. In 1950’s they were killing the forest, and what kids did was break off a piece of concrete and from an area to show the soil underneath the concrete. And people were confused as to where children would play if there was no concrete and the answer was on that land to create a green life A school created an edible landscape out of a concrete area that allowed children to get their hands into the dirt and collect veggies to create a lunch for them out of the natural sources they created All the waste is created into compose. To create new land. Composing is the way to create new soil. They would turn their soils 4 or five times to create dirt

that looks like it came right from your backyard. They used broken clam shells as a resource for compose that would be soil that would be good in decades to come We can no use the energy from soils and microbes to turn on outdoor lights and now they are trying to find a way to use microbes in other areas than just outside. Rikers island in NYC offers inmates to work in the green house program. When they are in the garden the feel free and happy and enjoy the nature and getting involved with the soil Schools are finding that children are starting to enjoy creating life in the ground and working with the dirt. It is a way to connect with the earth in an enjoyable way. The green team s a way for inmates who got out of jail to work and plant trees and restore life to their areas. It's a way to learn team building and get away from concrete. It's a way of learning. If we all started to make a change in how we look at nature and how we treat it we could see a big change in climate and the planet would be happy. When we give back to the soil is the way it will sustain us. Worms will be recognized as the most important species because they create the soil. “I will be the hummingbird , i will do the best I can” Dirt is alive....
