Distillation Tutorial Question 1
Question 2 The saturated vapour pressure of component A and component B are given in the table below
n-pentane
n-hexane
Compute the vapour-liquid equilibrium data for the mixtures at the total pressure of 13.3 kPa using Raolt’s law. If 100 Kmol/hr of the pentane-hexane mixture containing containing 40 mol% pentane is to be distilled in a fractionating column, and this mixture is heated so that it enters the column at its boiling point. A distillate containing 90 mol% pentane and a bottom product containing 10 mol% pentane are to be obtained. The vapour leaving the column is condensed but not cooled and provides a reflux of 2.5. Calculate the amount of distillate produced per hour and bottoms product per hour. Determine the number of actual number of trays if the tray efficiency is specified at 80%
Question 3
Question 4
Question 5
A distillation column is fed with a mixture of Acetone and Ethyl alcohol in which the mole fraction of acetone is 0.50.The column is to yield a product in which the mole fraction of acetone is 0.85 when working with a reflux ratio of 4. The waste from the column is not to exceed 0.10 fraction of acetone. The feed is at its boiling point. Estimate the number of plates required and its position of the feed point....
