Description

Lauren Farrell Diversity Issues James Berry Poem

1) Growing up with red hair, I did not exactly fit in with everyone around me. Everyone I knew had blonde or brown hair and I always stuck out in a crowd because of my red hair. I always felt like an outcast because of my hair color. Kids in my class would always tease me and say “Gingers had no soul” and it caused me to hate my hair color. In the poem by James Berry one of his lines is “Do we communicate to it”, when I was younger I never communicated my frustration with people making me feel different because of the color of my hair. Overtime I have learned to communicate to my friends and peers that I do not like anyone talking about my hair color in a negative way. After communicating to my friends how much it bugged me they learned to not do it and apologized for their actions. I have learned to love my hair color any everything that comes with it. 2) I believe that the phrase “let application acknowledge it” means to let others know you are acknowledging the difference. This can connect to the idea of barriers because it can set boundaries for others but we want to knock those boundaries down. 3) This poem is about being different and knowing what to do with the difference and not discriminating others because of their differences. My verse Walking down the street, Everyone's different noone the same, All wave and smile no discrimination or shame....
