Melissa Novak MGT 103 Principles of Management April 8, 2021 Diversity Assignment The first country that interested me was Poland. The culture of Poland interested me because my grandparents on my fathers’ side are from Poland and traveled over to the United States when they were young due to the Holocaust. The official language is Polish which my grandfather tried to teach me when I was young. The most common foreign language spoken in Poland is English. The greeting used Poland is direct eye contact, a firm handshake, and a smile; civil but polite. When addressing someone who is polish it is best to use prefix; Pan for addressing males and Pani for females. Good morning or afternoon is “dzien dobry” and good evening is “dobry wieczor”. Alcohol is usually offered in little glasses and should be downed in one go. The initial style of business attire is very formal. Business cards are given and taken without any ceremony, but it is worth trying to have your business card translated into polish if you plan to have a continuing business relationship. The National Holidays are Constitution Day, 1 May (1791), Independence Day, and 11 November (1918). The currency used in Poland is Polish Zloty. Family and Religion are important in the polish culture. The emergency numbers are 112, 999, 998 and 997. Australia is the next country I chose to research. In Australia has a Western culture derived primarily from Brittan. The native Language is Australian English. Wear sunscreen to avoid sunburn. Australians’ religion is Christian, and they go to Christian Churches. First meeting Shake someone’s right hand when you introduce yourself. Do not speak about personal matters. It is common to use first names only. Business hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Australians are very straightforward when it comes to business. Do not try to “hard sell”. In Australia, the decision making can be a slower process than what you are used to so be patient. When you arrive, it is advisable to register with Medicare and apply for an Australian Tax File

The currency is the Australian dollar. Italy is the last country I researched. Family is an important support network for Italians. First impressions are very important. Italian is the official language but there are several other languages that are spoken in Italy, but they are all from Latin roots. The Latin alphabet is what people write in. In Italy eating and dining is important. The main religion in Italy is Christianity. Punctuality is expected in a business meeting; shake hands when meeting. Both men and women are advised to wear smart business suits. Business hours are usually Monday to Friday 8:30am or 9am to 6pm or 6:30pm with an hour or two for lunch. Status and hierarchy are well respected. There are many Catholic events in August so try not to schedule business meetings during this time. Lunches in Italy are expected to last around three hours. The currency used in Italy is called Euro. The emergency numbers are 112, 119 and 129. In conclusion every culture is different but there are ways to familiarize yourself before you visit. Each country has resources available to help if needed. To set up a translator you can call 01460279900. Make sure you prepare yourself before traveling to another country to conduct business. It is important to know how each culture conducts business so you do not offend a potential business partner.
