Nicholas Pond Dr. Young ENG 201 HB Sunday, November 26, 2017 Mini Blackboard Post #5 for November 30th After reading Donald Hall’s “Affirmation” I interpreted this poem in a way where Hall is explaining how in life certain things are affirmed and that’s just how it is. I like when Hall says “Let us settle under mud at the pond’s edge and affirm that it is fitting and delicious to lose everything.” (Lines 23-25, 1269) I interpreted these lines as Hall saying that it is true that we lose everything. I agree with Hall in a way. I believe it isn’t “delicious” to lose everything, but it can be bittersweet. It’s painful to lose things in life, but we learn to remember the pleasant things in life. As much as some people may deny it, it is fitting to lose everything. I think if we didn’t lose anything in life then we wouldn’t learn how to live our lives to the fullest. Life is about learning lessons. For example when we lose a loved one, we mourn the loss but eventually carry on with life. The feeling can be bittersweet rather than delicious because it is painful to lose someone but the good memories with that person is what is pleasant to us. Most importantly I think Hall would agree with me when I say that I believe that we need to live life to the fullest....
