Description

ENGL 111 Dr. Makin December 3, 2015 In “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko, he begins his argument by sympathizing with a youth group who are suing McDonald’s because they claim the chain is the culprit for their weight gain. He relates to them from his own experience as a child, claiming he used to have a diet made up of predominantly fast food and affirms that it is significantly easy to gain weight on such a diet. He argues that these children are not to blame for their poor diet choices as most often than rarely fast food is the only choice they have to eat, given that the majority of these children’s parents lead busy work lives during the day, these children turn to fast food in their parent’s absence for its convenience and affordability. Furthermore, he believes that they are unaware of the dangers that fast food portrays on their health due to the lack of nutrition information offered by fast-food restaurants. In his article he advocates for more nutrition information to be offered by these restaurants in order to educate their consumers. If nutrition facts were offered at fast food restaurants, he believes that many consumers would think twice about their meal choices and perhaps opt for a healthier meal....
