Scholarly Resources Effect on Early Childhood Education The Plyler vs. Doe case was held with the Supreme Court. Plyler argued that children between the ages of 3-5 should be able to attend a public preschool program for free, funded by the state. The major point to this case was to determine whether or not schools could exclude certain students based upon their own or their parents’ immigration status. Maria Montessori is a very well-known childhood activist today. Montessori started by opening up a program for young children. This program was very welcoming to children, with child sized furniture and equipment. She watched and worked with the children to carefully understand that children learn best by what is around their environment. Children also learn best at their own pace. There are a large number of Montessori based early childhood programs today. The Great Depression is an economic event that effected many different businesses and profession fields. Friedrich Froebel Scientific Contribution
close their doors because they could not afford to pay their teachers. Also, the stress from their parents was felt deeply by the young children as well. There was a high rise in child malnutrition. School programs were running low on money. Resulting in schools closing, laying off teachers, shortening the school days and/ or shortening the school year. Friedrich Froebel was a scientific theorist that was an advocate for early childhood education. He believed that children learn best through play and thought children learn the best by being somewhere where they are receiving some emotional stability. He established a new school program at the time, teaching 3–5-year old’s.
