Editorial Board: Esperanza’s Environmental Autobiography On a scale from 1 – 5, rate each category (there are five total) followed by a brief 1 sentence explanation/description: 1 – Needs improvement 2 – Almost there 3 – Solid performance 4 — Moderately strong performance (good BUT errors are present: simple grammatical errors, mechanical errors – missing or incorrect punctuation, and/or inaccurate references to the text)

5 – Strong performance NOTE: The environmental autobiography chapters will be referred to as vignettes.

Writer’s Voice: Does the style of writing in each vignette reflect a voice similar to that of Esperanza’s including tone (mood or emotion the writer evokes and the way the author’s words make the reader feel), word choice, and construction of writing? Rate and briefly explain. Poetry Devices: How many poetry devices are present in the entire Environmental Autobiography? Rate and explain the overall quality of writing of the poetry devices used (ex. one simile didn’t conceptually make sense, a couple of metaphors were profoundly written, repetition was a consistent staple in all vignettes, etc.). Research: A.) How many sources of research (“Place and Identity” PPS article and Academic OneFile source) are present: 1 or 2? B.) On a scale from 1 - 5, rate how the writer integrates research into selected vignettes (consider the following when choosing 1 rating number): 1.) Only directly quotes research 2.) References research by putting it in Esperanza’s words and/or another character’s words or 3.) A combination of directly quoting research and referencing research by putting it in Esperanza’s words (or another character’s words) Demonstration: After reading Esperanza’s Environmental Autobiography, rate demonstration of having read the entire book.
