Edouard Benedictus was a French workmen born in France in 1878. He was a chemist, inventor, painter, book binder, and a textile designer. One day while climbing a ladder in his lab, Edouard Benedictus accidentally knocked over a glass flask that was on a shelf. It fell to the floor and cracked but did not fall apart. The glass shards stayed pretty put together which had him and his assistant confused. After a quick check Edouard assistant confirmed that the flask had a coat of cellulose nitrate that evaporated in the flask. Instead of shrugging off the new find, the gears in his brain started turning. The product he accidentally come upon was safety glass or bullet proof glass. Edouard Benedictus recalls reading an article in the newspaper how drivers were constantly getting injured by glass from their windshield. The next 24 hours he worked diligently trying to create unique glass and finally ended up with his first piece of safety glass, Triplex. The beginning of WWI was when his creation really started gaining attention. It was used in the military for lenses in gas masks. In 1919, Henry Ford even starting using it for his cars. Over time, this innovation led to millions of lives being saved and is somewhat the base work of the modernization of different safety glass....
