Edward scissor hands ...

Description

EDWARD EASSY BY RISHI CHANGELA 8M

Edward Scissorhands was directed by Tim Burton. The name of the film represents the movie entirely because it is the name of the main character is Edward Scissorhands. It reflects on the themes of conformity, love and wanting to belong . The title of this story also gives away to how incomplete the main character Edward is with only one real name. The last name “Scissorhands” is just a weird name and definition of who Edward is. Edward is different than any other person because he has scissors for hands he is uncompleted

In Edward Scissorhands , conformity is a main theme throughout the entire movie, which is mainly shown through the community and the characters that live within it. Many things throughout the movie show how they conform. For example, there houses are all one solid colour and all have the same shape, the characters are all dressed the same and all act very similarly. Film director Tim Burton uses many techniques to display these resemblances, like many aerial shots of the houses and multiple close ups of the characters. When Edward is introduced to the community, he is immediately looked upon as an outsider who does not follow the community’s nature, which is true. Edward has never been in this town, and looks nothing alike to the people. Most importantly, Edward is different because of his hands that are made out of scissors. This doesn’t only make him an outcast, but it makes him very dangerous to the people, and surprisingly special. Edward cuts the townspeople’s hedges, gives their dog’s haircuts, and even gives them haircuts, which makes him very popular within the community. Edward’s complexion is also very unfamiliar, as he has wild hair, pale skin, and scars that mark his face. These differences were displayed over the course of the film, using many close-ups and different camera angles. Both of Edward’s positive and negative differences show how he does not conform to the community, however this doesn’t stop him and his friends from attempting to make him indistinguishable.

In Edward Scissorhand Love is the 2nd main theme Edward fell so deeply in love with Kim , that he [Edward] is willing to do ANYTHING for Kim. Edward helped Jim & Kim break into Jims's home even though he know it was wrong to do break into Jim's home. When Kim asked Edward why he willingly helped them, Edward replied " Because you asked me to." Edward showed how much he loved Kim by the way he considered the consequences if he were to physically be with her " hold me" Kim asked

but Edward knew that if he did there would be a possibily that he would hurt Kim with his Scissorhands so he answered "i can't". Jim made it impossible for Edward to get close with Kim

One major symbol throughout the film and probably the most important would be Edward’s scissoshands who wants to belong. This is so important because It symbolizing difference and change, it scares people because of these is makes Edward different than everybody else. It was the reason Edward remained alone and it was the reason Peg brought him to live with her at her house . Second, there is the garden sculptures Edward creates out of shrubs. These represent Edward’s inner creativity. This drew people to Edward and what made people fascinated instead of terrified of Edward. Another important symbol would be the snow that Edward creates at the end of the film. It shows a contrast between the way his life started out living with Peg to coldness he began to feel toward the end. The snow represented the change he brought to the people and especially Kim. It showed how he blossomed the town where they lived , Edward still left his mark behind to the town. Before Edward visited it had never snowed, and now every year it does. Edward still wanted to show people he can create beauty and not just destruction.

To summarise the many ideas that Tim Burton has made throught Edward Scissorhands. Tim burton wants to let the audience reflect on the meaning of live , how people treat each other and what love could do to people. His message about love , confornity and wanting to belong reflecting the reality of life. people sacrifices and the pain people go throught like Edward. When Edward came to the town he also borought snow with im now it snows every year after Edward left the town...
