Elevator Speech: Professional Sales Individual Project

Introduction Working alone, students will provide a video (a head/upper torso shot only) of their Elevator Speech. Please do some independent research on what an “Elevator Speech” is, using please Google or the text book index. But essentially it is a business introduction – an opportunity to “sell your self”. Note, most Elevator Speeches are around 15-30 seconds but we will expand that: 2 mins max.

Deliverables All students must upload a maximum 2 mins Elevator Speech Video and send it to [email protected]. Please convert the video to a zip file to reduce size. Or upload on Youtube and send link. Video must be no more than 2 mins. NO less than 1min 30 sec. Students must dress professionally *Do not read from a script during video. Any student who reads will be rewarded a grade of 0.

Details – below is a table of what to include and what to watch for. -

-

-

Things to Include Introduce yourself and include relevant education (do not mentioned high school) Include relevant work experience. Discuss something about you that is unique ie can speak 3 languages Have a university degree Have travelled around the world Something amazing about you that you have to think about…it takes time!

What industry you want to work in

-

-

No Include or watch for How many times you say the vowel “I” – there is no right amount but be aware of how many times you say it Please rehearse! Do not discuss that you are “hard working” or “creative” or “organized” – etc - you do not need to say it – the listener will be able to discern you are all those things in a great elevator speech. So you are selling yourself, but not over selling. Imagine it is your first ‘date’, you don’t talk about how amazing you are (at least I hope you don’t) but rather the potential person is interested in your energy and vibe.

-

Name only three companies that you are targeting in THAT INDUSTRY! SMILE Relevant volunteer experience

Tips: Keep this professional, business setting. You are meeting someone in a business environment or elevator. Relevant work – if you want to work in Banking industry it does not bode well to discuss working at McDonalds during high school. I would suggest re positioning that to “Have 3 years of customer service experience” You must find an industry for this project and 3 companies only that you want to work for. Companies must be in this industry you selected. If you want to be an entrepreneur, you want still find an industry and 3 companies. Find something interesting about yourself – this is unique to you. Ask friends or family! Create a vacuum in your speech – something that “sucks that person in” – in a way that they ask further questions and continue the conversation.

Rubric Item Professionalism - 2 min length, proper clothes, rehearsed, etc Content (see table above) - Introduction, relevant work/volunteer experience, created vacuum, vibe, energy, etc. Overall TOTAL
