Description

Bryan Wong COM 1130 - D542 Professor Paul Cameron 4/20/18 Intro ● My topic for my persuasive speech is Minimum Wage. ● Some people believe that minimum wage should be more than $15 (Effective December 2018). Whereas some people think that minimum wage should be lower. ● My powerpoint will discuss the pros and cons of increasing minimum wage. Body I. A. B. C. D.

Pros for Increasing Minimum Wage Raising minimum wage will reduce poverty. Would lead to a healthier population and would prevent premature deaths. Would increase economic economy and job growth. A minimum wage increase would help reduce the race and gender inequality.

I. Cons for Increasing Minimum Wage A. Companies could replace employees with automated processors. For example, some McDonalds has self service counters. B. There are a lot of unskilled workers in NY. C. Raising the minimum wage would increase high school dropout rates. D. The costs of goods will go up. E. Will hurt companies and force companies to close. Conclusion: I think that the New York City Government should raise the minimum wage because it will lessen poverty rates and help people pay bills. Minimum wage should also increase because cost of goods are already going up, so people should be able to pay for goods if the minimum wage goes up. $15 is not enough in New York. There an article in the New York Times about a lady named Jocelyn Rodriguez, a teaching assistant in Bed - Stuy at a learning center, who makes about $15 an hour, and still struggles to pay rent.
