TOPIC Personal Story Speech

GENERAL PURPOSE To inform my instructor and peers about me, and who I am

SPECIFIC PURPOSE To educate my audience about my background, and what I’ve taken away from life experiences

CENTRAL IDEA This speech is about me, and how my belonging to a team allowed me to develop certain traits that are hard to find otherwise in people whom have not ever played a team sport

INTRODUCTION I. II.

III.

Hey there! (Orate Voice) My name is Cameron, I’m a freshman, I was 17 as I wrote this, and now I’m 18 as I read it But this class, and this class in particular is quite different, things run a little bit more smooth, more relaxed, more you (point), and you (point), and you as well (point)can be yourself. Let go, and have fun, and lay out all of your ideas on a crisp white blank sheet of paper that will otherwise be your canvas for the next upcoming quarter

BODY I In-Depth Introduction

A And as for me, well I love pugs, I think I can sing but lord knows I can’t to save my life, I can pay a little bit of guitar, I write music, and I know what you’re thinking… B quite ironic that I know how to play guitar and write music, and can’t sing, but, HEY!? (Rhetoric) I mean Taylor Swift does it so why can’t I!

II My purpose for being up here, and the climax from my football career

A. But on a serious note, why am I up here today? What is it that I have to say that’s just so important. Well, I’ve already told you guys a little bit about me, but now I think it’s time to make this discussion, this speech, and dare I say expository oration a little bit more raw, honest, and most importantly me. And though my story doesn’t compare to some of those who read before me, I ask that you still hear my cause B. Up until this past November, I was a varsity football player on my high school’s football team. I was a co-captain, ocean league champion, and freshman lineman coordinator, however, all of that came to an abrupt stop once my team was knocked out of our playoff bracket by an underdog team from Oxnard, California C. What had sort of made me, me for almost my whole entire high school career was ending, and there was absolutely nothing that I could really do about it, except savor and hold onto the memories of what I did and still do consider to be one of my favorite sports.

III A New Chapter

A From playing on a team for four straight years back to back, you learn and pick up on some skills that you otherwise cannot pick up from any other extracurricular outlets that don’t require a team type of mentality. As you progress through obstacles and challenges with your team you adopt a sense of unity with them. B

You start to see good in not just the big things, but in the little ones as well

CONCLUSION Although my football career is indefinitely over, what I’ve taken away from the game will never ever, leave my side. Anything seems possible, and those traits and ideologies that I’ve managed to adopt from being on a team can’t be taken away from me, they are officially a part of who I am, my personality, my emotional makeup, and most importantly, me!...
