In a 100-150 word rationale, explain how each instructional strategy or activity encourages complex thinking and problem-solving. Rationale: Reading When the students are doing the graphic organizer it makes them think about the characters being shown as well as what or who they love. They are able to analyze characters while also using support and their opinions with examples from the episode. Also this goes with the quote that they are listening for and figuring out why they chose that quote and how they are going to apply it to their lives or for that day. This also makes them think about if the experiments that are being done are real or not. That is how this activity and lesson is showing and encouraging complex thinking and problem solving.

Rationale: Writing With this activity the students can create a real world or imagined experience and events while using different writing techniques, using many transition words, showing that they are going from one scene to another scene whether that’s in the past or present or future, and showing relevant descripted details. They are being engaged and establishing the point of view and introducing the narrator on which person it will be told by as well as creating dialog and description to create the theme and scenes of the story. That is how this lesson and activity is allowing students to show and encourage complex thinking and problem solving as well.

Rationale: Listening and Speaking With this activity students can present claims, show their findings, while emphasizing the main points in a professional manner. They can provide evidence while creating a valid reasoning to the story by using their tone of voice to the class. The judges or students that are listing and filling out the worksheet is able to be the judges to the story that is being read to them and they are able to give their honest feed back to their peers on what they thought of their story. This is how the activity and lesson show that the students are able to have complex thinking, they are being encouraged to provide their feed back and it also allows them to have to problem solve on each story as they figure out who is the killer and why the killer did what they did.
